Tin note of musty hay, sour and bread. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of light brown and brown. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is mild to medium and very consistent, with notes of sweet grass, floral, earth, bread, orange peel/zest, tangy citrus, spices, fermented sour vegetation, wood, tart dark dried fruit, mild sugar, a mildly bitter hay background note, and a peppery retro. Golden Mixture is my favorite tobacco. I know it's not as highly rated as many others, and I get what more experienced pipe smokers are saying about it. It is kind of one dimensional, and probably not strong enough for some. But, as I keep trying different tobaccos, thinking that the next one I try might just be the one that takes over as my new favorite, I find that Golden Mixture is still number one on my list. I enjoy many other well-liked tobaccos, like Escudo, Orlik Golden Sliced and Nightcap, for instance. They are very good. The thing is, I just like Golden Mixture better....Read More

Was the philosophers favorite tobacco. Those who dont like it...usually fault it for its simplicity. But in fact it reminds me a lot of Gawith;s Golden Glow, only better. Somewhere between GG and Best Brown, actually. Its ribbon cut....tasty, mild, high quality. Nothing at all like cigarette tobacco. Sigh./...Read More

Cigarette in a pipe

Bought this one because i have still been waiting around to try a tin of the Virginia plug. Huge mistake. Smoked one half pipe of the stuff and thought i smoked a cigarette! Would not recommend unless your looking for that sort of stuff.

I admit I picked up a tin of Golden Mixture because if its affiliation with Bertrand Russell. It was a light blend that could bite when pushed and got a bit hot and ashy near the end. Not a bad blend but not worth the price, when it is even in stock.

If you prefer lighter tasting, low nicotine tobacco this one is definitely for you. It is a little lacking in flavor for my liking, although I do enjoy it as a summer evening smoke. It takes a good slow smoking cadence to coax any complexity out of the blend, although there is some. I would think this would be great for someone switching to a pipe from cigarettes....Read More
