Named for the famed winding, twisting street in San Francisco, Lombard starts with a base of Red and Bright Virginias. It is then enhanced with American 'condimental' leaf, including an angel's share of Perique. The G. L. Pease twist in this Lombard? A delicate breath of Cyprus Latakia is added for a whisper of smokiness and a slightly deeper flavor. A gentle introduction to Latakia for the Virginia smoker, or just a delightful change of pace.
I thought I would give this a whirl as I do not like lat. It made me realize even more so that I do not like lat. Take the lat out of this blend and it is quite enjoyable.
And thats not a bad thing! This is just a good smoke when you need a break from other blends that try too many different things. Im sure there are plenty of nuances to discover and figure out sure, but this is classical. A good standard smoking experience. *update* No, listen to me.. this is actually very good. Wow so good. It is perfectly and masterfully blended to suit my tastes. Its delicious, and real darn tastey. It has a wonderful spiciness and smooth creamy sweet flavor that keeps me coming back for more....Read More
I liked this one quite a bit, as I have all of the Fog City Series blends I have tried. This one adds a tiny bit of Latakia to what would otherwise be a similar blend to Fillmore or Telegraph Hill, which are both favorites of mine. I find I don't really notice the Latakia in this one, but I do prefer Fillmore and especially Telegraph Hill. If anything, the lat makes this one a little more earthy, rather than smoky, but it's intriguing....Read More
I'm a fairly new pipe smoker and I have gone from strictly aros to Virginias and Burleys but I was intrigued by this blends description as a gentle introduction to Latakia. So, I took a chance and ordered a tin. When I opened it, I was put off by the tin note of BBQ ribs and I was sure I'd take two puffs and in the trash it would go. Boy, was I ever wrong! From the char light to the bottom of the bowl, I was in love with this blend. In fact, I have smoked it every day for two weeks and I'm still not tired of it. I will definitely keep it in stock in my cellar....Read More
just like I said, not a bad little go to, a nice medium, afternoon, mild smoke.
A nice break from the heavier smokes, recommended by someone on the live chat when asking about it(I believe his name was Sam (forget the last name though), but I digress, a ni e go to when you're not sure what you want, but you're wanting to smoke.
Nice mild tin note of barbecue sauce, great flavor, not too strong....Read More
This was the first blend to turn me on to G.L. Pease. The key to this blend is in its subtleties. if your not paying attention, your just blowing smoke. but when your attention and clean palate is tuned to the blend, you will find the virginias are mildly sweet, the latakia a faint whisper, the perique just hinting on spice and tanginess. one of my favorite parts of this smoking experience is the whisp of smoke that comes from the bowl, wafting under my nose, it smells like bbq ribs being smoked on the grill. no kidding!...Read More
