s getting the truest, purest flavor from this blend. I lit up and took several good puffs & at that point, didn't really notice much other than a regular VA/Per, tobacco flavor. Then, I let the pipe sit & cool for about twenty minutes, tamped & then relit. I always use this DGT method with any blend containing the Virginia leaf. Upon relighting & after a few more tokes, I started noticing a little more sweetness & then the cocoa flavor came bursting through, although very slight, it complimented the smoking experience considerably & this mix started tasting so good, I just wanted to jet-stream this stuff but maintained my composure & continued sipping this wonderful concoction. e, I think it's just a flake in the lakeland style and like all GH tobaccos SOMETIMES it gets a little misting just from being in the same room as the other stuff. Mine had nothing and as a flake it felt like an imitation of the real thing. Just kinda boring, too much burley, just bleh. I don't get the hype. ht save yourself some embarrassment by spewing out meaningless blather about a fine pipe tobacco. First of all, to think this would not have some of the Lakeland essence when John Gawith had a hand in it shows a severe lack of discernment. That is what Gawith pipe tobacco is all about, the wonderful Lakeland floral essence. I agree with Joshua L. that the Lakeland essence is hardly even noticeable, if at all. It was done with a very light hand. So children, if you don't like this, you sure better stay away from most all Gawith tobacco! To say this smells like a nursing home is insane! What I get from the tin note is wonderful chocolate floral hay like notes. It is beautiful pipe tobacco, don't let these inexperienced newbies drive you away from it. It's great stuff from the minds of two master blenders and is reserved for pipers who appreciate the finer things in the vast and glorious world of pipe tobacco!

criptions and letting nature preside. If I have any doubts I will, then, read a review. So, quite to my surprise did I read the review titled 'Essence of Nursing-home'! All the while as I happily puffed away on the article in question. For a moment my credulity was deceived and I thought I may be missing something and the aroma so dreaded in the disapproving review made itself apparent. I steeled my nerves against this hideous specter and told myself, 'Its only your imagination! You know there is no such thing as a pervading nursing home!' With my mind settled and my nerves calmed I once again resumed the pleasant task of appreciating the airy sweetness and delicate perfume of this fine blend. Enjoying the thought of leaves steamed and hot pressed, matured and then sliced to just the right thickness to produce an effect that has few if any rivals in appearance, taste and texture. If you like flakes you are missing out on something superb if you have not yet tried a tin of this blend. There is every taste of summer in here, or rather, the end of summer, when the days are just a little less hot and the nights are cool and breezy and everything feels peaceful. That may not be a concrete indication of this blend's flavor but it should give you an idea of the taste. Read Less

The flakes are what I'm used to seeing in G.H. & Co.'s blends. They're stringy, look like they've been half tumbled and crammed into a tin, just ugly compared to other flake style tobaccos where they're thinly sliced and carefully packaged in neat little stacks. But once you rub some out, let it dry for a few, it's a very, very tasty blend indeed. et and flaky bread with a center of sweet chocolate. The burleys add to the cocoa essence, along with a dry wood and nutty component. The virginias add to the sweetness and compliment the burleys to give it more profile. The perique is detectable but you have to concentrate to let it interfere with the burley and Virginia forward taste. It does add a nice dimension to the smoke and tickles your nostrils every once in a while. This blend has some Lakeland applied to it, but it is so lightly applied that if it weren't mentioned in the numerous reviews I wouldn't have even known.
Performance: Burns at a reasonable rate and requires one or two relights. Because of the flake form, you could either fold and stuff or rub it out, in which the latter I prefer due to its slight moisture out of the tin. I let it dry for about 10 minutes and it seems to do the trick. Nicotine is mild. Not quite an all day blend, but some might make it a repeatable pleasure.
Conclusion: I would consider this a mild aromatic, somewhere in the genre of MacBaren Scottish Mixture or Navy Flake. The topping is present but doesn't make the base components of the blend concede to it . It reminds me of Bobs Chocolate Flake with a pinch of perique added. I fell in love with BCF but it's damn near hard to find these days unless purchasing from overseas. I'm glad I tried Stonehenge as I prefer this blend and the availability of it. One of my favorites and is a nice change from the heavier burley/Virginia blends. Read Less

Smoked it after being in the closet for 3 months and i'm amazed at how linear it has become. It is amazing now. The lakeland has toned down immensely and so has the coco taste. it has a bold smoothness to it if that makes sense and all the flavors enhance the tobacco. The burn is slow and even. I split the flakes in halk and gave a light rub to keep the flake more intact. Consistent flavor that just kept getting better down the bowl and burned down with a few nominal relights to a small puck at the bottom. Now i will have to buy more and keep going.
