So Much Flavor
February 16, 2019
Product: G. L. Pease Lagonda 2oz
Lagonda is amazing. It’s got a huge flavor profile without being overbearing. The tin note smells beautifully smokey and rich. One of the best tin notes of any tobacco I’ve ever smelled. The pressing and fermentation process gives the whole tin a ver... Read More

Product: G. L. Pease Lagonda 2oz
I ordered this blend not prepared for it to become one of my favorites. It starts off light and a bit spicy, then gradually becomes richer and smokier. I have found that this performs even better when re-lighting. I will smoke about a 3rd and set the... Read More
pipe down to cool completely. When you come back you are greeted with this savory, crispy chared brisket flavor that fades out into a nice, mesquite type smokiness. Repeat as necessary. It is mostly dry with a hint of sweetness that comes though here and there. Spice will also duck in and out during the smoke. I like the complexity and will be buying again, and a few for the cellar. Product: G. L. Pease Lagonda 8oz
My normal rotation consists of heavy Latakia blends like Gas Light, Pirate Kake etc. However, this blend, while having a heavy dose of Latakia, comes across with a terrific flavor from the Virginias and Orientals. They cut through the Latakia to crea... Read More
te a well balanced and very flavorful smoke. The noticeable thing about this blend is that the latakia does not leave that heavy and sometimes oily taste in your mouth. Gas light smokers will understand what I am talking about. For me, this is a very welcome addition that fills a void in my rotation. Read Less
Simply wonderful!

Product: G. L. Pease Lagonda 2oz
Although somewhat similar to Abingdon in taste, it is a tiny bit milder, with a little bit of sweetness, and that wonderful presence of Latakia, makes this a great all day smoke, every bit as good as Abingdon, another grand slam for GL Pease!
Mild in strength yet full in flavor.

I've been wanting to try lagonda ever for months and I finally got my chance recently. I was expecting a heavy Latakia presence, and although the sweet and smoky delight is abundant, Lagonda remains cool, smooth, and varied. In other words, there i... Read More
s a lot going on here besides the standard Latakia and Virginia flavors. It was mentioned below that Lagonda is reminiscent of Meridian, and indeed some of the same orientals are used here, infusing every puff with a subtle sweetness (in concert with the splash of bright VA) and provides the smoker a delicious, lingering aftertaste if zesty, Woody and sweet smoke. Meridian is full with the delicious orientals varietal, whereas in Lagonda it plays a supporting and almost subtle role, albeit an important one. Another blend with similar flavor profile is quiet nights, which in my opinion is the true big brother to Lagonda. Quiet nights has more orientals and Latakia, and though it can be smoked all day, especially with some age, it is more of a treat to me. The balance of strength, flavor, and body in Lagonda is expertly crafted to the point of perfection. It can easily be smoked all day, or any time of day, with no bite and no harshness on the palate. Sweet and smoky Latakia on top, layered over sweet and zesty orientals and a base of quality red Virginia grants the smoker a deep and satisfying experience for those moments when you crave Latakia but just want something easy. I finally got around to trying Lagonda. I was actually going to purchase some Quiet Nights because I’ve been trying my hand at blending as of late and came up with a blend that is very similar in flavor to Quiet Nights. I wanted to try them side by ... Read More
side. Quiet Nights was out of stock, so I finally pulled the trigger on this one. It’s very good. Upon opening the tin, I was struck by how dry it was. It’s not overly dry, perfect right out of the tin. The tin note was nice, smoky and a bit floral. Although, not as smoky as I expected. According to Mr. Pease, this mixture has over 50% Latakia and more Latakia than Westminster. It’s a spicy blend, which I attribute to the use of Izmir, a buttery Oriental with some zestiness that can stand up to the dark leaf. When those two tobaccos are combined, something magical and truly beautiful happens. Lagonda is also quite savory as well. This blend is very well balanced. It’s not as dark or as sharp as Quiet Nights but, it has a wonderful tangyness to it and the pressing of the tobaccos rounds out all of the flavors nicely. The campfire smokiness is there. It’s an earthy blend, woodsy, with notes of leather, tart apple, and a very delicate essence of toasted almonds in the retrohale. A very nice blend for Fall. Lagonda has a dryness to it with just a touch of subtle sweetness from the Virginias that dances in the background. When packed with a light hand, thick billowing clouds of smoke are produced. The cut is perhaps the most interesting aspect of this blend. It’s not a broken flake, as some have said. It’s really closer to a ribbon cut. However, some of the ribbons remain pressed together, resulting in a chunkier ribbon cut. This is the way a lot of English mixtures were produced long ago. Greg has brought the technique back. Rather fitting, for a blend in the “Old London” series. Lagonda is robust, round, and full. It has a wonderful flavor, a pleasant incense like aroma, a smooth finish, and a creamy mouthfeel. All in all, a very satisfying blend that’s a bit different. Read Less

A delightful tobacco for those who prefer a higher emphasis on smokey latakia. Very similar in style to Meridian, but with more latakia and a slightly deeper overall taste. Produces nice volumes of smoke.

, but boy/girl/man/lady does it have layers. It leans more toward the sweet side rather than the smoky. Sweet with a touch of spice, but the smoke is there too, subtly. I like it. I wouldn't trade my first-born, but a jerk of an offspring tethered to me only by mores, yeah, he's/she's gone. But seriously, give it a try. It's a sleeper in terms of attention garnered, but it damn sure isn't a sleeper in terms of quality, flavor, and zing. It will slap you in the face so pleasantly that you'll be saying, "Yeah, that Marquis de Sade might have had something there after all."

n the blend. Some say for (2) years now that it is coming from Lebanon, not Cyprus. There is zero coming from Syria. Perhaps the Latakia was not processed in the traditional manner. It's a pretty long process. On opening the tin, it gave off an "English" scent, but not the usual bold aroma. We have been informed that Cyprian Latakia is being processed currently. The past (2) years, Lebanon has provided a lot of Latakia. I did notice that I still have the taste of the pipeful hours afterwards. It's milder than Balkan Saseini. I'll be fair, and give it more time to age and maybe that will do the trick. Pease puts stickers on the bottom of each can noting the pack date. Wonder how long to age this? Any advice is welcome.
