note has that spicy smokiness typical of Latakia, but with a distinct sweetness molasses/treacle, which could likely be exaggerated by its age. Its nicotine content is fairly low, about 4/10. Also, the typical 'Mac Bite' found in several MB blends is absent, which is great. During the first two pipefuls, I found it to be unremarkable and a bit flat in taste. When I came back to it a few months later, it was like a new blend with a really nice flavor profile of spicy, smoky goodness that's rounded out with a wisper of sweetness. I have heard others say they had a similar experience to my first impressions, but never got to the point of liking it upon revisiting it like I did. With all of that said, for around ten dollars, this flake is certainly worth a shot for fans of English mixtures. If it doesn't sit well with you, try it again at a later time. Read Less

mazing, but what is there is very earthy and woody. The typical VA sweetness, grass/hay and bread are missing. The Latakia is actually pretty robust in this. Not a Lat bomb, but pretty darn close. I think it's heavily fired. This is a decent smoky, verdant, woody, earthy mixture. The VA was too muted by the pressing and not nearly sweet enough. I swear that Penzance has sugar added. Had it been sweeter and the VA more bready and less muted, it would've been a dead ringer replacement for Penzance. Nicotine is 1.5 - 2 out of 5. Read Less

And my experience has been that, at the bottom of the bowl, some lattice of charcoal-like tobacco strands remain whether folded and stuffed or rubbed out. Hence the less-than-perfect rating. ing a flake is a breeze. Actually more than you think, It makes it hard to use fold method on it. It requires some dry time. 30 minutes did the trick for me. It lights very easily, and stays lit. Requires minimal to no relights at all. On first light, your palette is greated with a strong flavour of Latakia, reminiscent of those used in Dunhill blends. It is tasty, creamy, smooth and cool.. It gives a joy of Latakia for the first part of the bowl. Afterwards, It opens up a bit. Some creamy, and herby orientals alongside sharp yet gentle high note grassy Virginia complement the Latakia in an excellent way.It has a great body of smoke. It keeps its consistent flavour and aroma throughout the bowl. It leaves a bit of moisture while smoking, so you may need to clean the smoke hole once or twice. So, a Peterson System or any army mount pipe would be useful.. It burns cool and clean till the end and leaves second to none dottle.. And clean, well burnt ash. For a lover of Latakia, this is definitely heaven.. A medium bodied, complex yet not overwhelming blend with a low to medium nicotine hit and no harshness whatsoever. I really love HH Bold Kentucky, typically having a flake of it with coffee each morning to get me going. So I decided to take a chance on this HH Latakia Flake. I’m very happy I did, it’s superb.
For the first 3rd of the bowl it has quite a tangy raspberry/lemon flavor in addition to a decent amount of distinct Latakia flavor, and in the last two thirds it has a very very similar taste and aroma to The Bear, just a bit less heavy and intense and a bit more dry and spicy, probably from the orientals.
This is a truly superb tobacco and can be enjoyed any time of day without fear of too much or too little flavor or nicotine. Absolutely a 10 out of 10, it’s brilliant. Read Less

tter review with time. As it stands now, though, I find the blend a little muddled for something purporting to be a 'Latakia Blend'. It has Latakia as promised; that's for sure. It has a lot of body and is an all-around quality smoke. The tough spot for me is that for something purporting to be a 'Latakia Blend' I'm more inclined to name it something else. verlaid with casing. It sticks unpleasantly on my lips. There is no need for an added artificial sweetness in this mixture! The natural sweetness of the tobacco does the job. If there was to add sweetness at all, natural Macedonia Bright (a sweet Oriental) would have been a much better choice.
For my needs this blend is too sweet and lacks complexity. And I miss the peaty “horse-stable ambiance” in this Latakia. It will not be part of my rotation. Having said that, the HH Latakia Blend remains a recommendable smoke only for all those looking for a well fermented, mellower, lighter and sweeter Lat/Vir with no peaks and tongue bites. Read Less

To be honest, this Tobacco reminds me closely Esoterica Panzance, but with a little bit more Latakia here. Compared with this Tobacco HH Latakia Flake is far better, and very much easier to get. It has a very easy burning, and packing is possible in any kind. It always burns well. It is a medium strengh Flake without any bite or harshness. Very Smooth and round. Virginia Flake lovers will have much fun with it, as well as the english blend smoker. New Pipesmokers will like it, but experienced will love it! A very good blend. Expect what is written by Mac Baren about this blend. I wanted a little more Latakia to show up though, but I would buy this blend again. Very enjoyable. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful flake! I disagree, however, that the latakia takes the front seat. To me it is more a condiment to the excellent virginia and burley. Great taste. Flavorful with a mellow tanginess on the tongue.

iness to the smoke, my guess the burley/oriental factor, and the sweetness from Virginia carries and deepens as the smoke progresses. The latakia gives that wonderful spice. Top notch blend. r roll in this flake. I was figuring that the hot press mehtod would meld the flavors in a way that other methods would not, taking away some of what I usuually don't like with Latakia...I was right!
The tin note upon opening is Latakia (not overwhelmingly so), some spice aroma (I figure from the Orientals) and overall, good tobacco aroma. No hay-like tones whatsoever. The flakes are nearly black and alligned in three rows ala HH ODF, resulting in each flake slightly smaller than a stick of chewing gum - a perfect size. I took two flakes out and let them air dry for 5 minutes and then folded and loaded into a Tom Eltang Stanwell SB. Pre-light sucking on the stem revealed Latakia, and some creamy, minty notes, albeit subtle. Very different and appealing to me. Lighting and keeping lit was very easy. Smoking from begininng to end was effortless and resulted in a very relaxing, enjoyable smoke. Yes, the Latakia was there but what I find different is that its flavor was so well merged with the other tobaccos that this flake smoked as "one flavor" for me. Not airy, moderately full in mouth feel...very appealing indeed.
Coming from someone who tolerates but does not love Latakia, my hats off to Mac Baren for making such a fine flake, one that I can smoke each and every day. Now if they would only produce a HH Burley flake like the unfortunately defunct Edgeworth Sliced, this would, for me, be a triple play! Read Less
