About This Pipe Tobacco
When Dunhill announced it would no longer be producing tobacco, pipe smokers rued the loss of some of their favorite mixtures. Thanks to Peterson, however, those beloved blends are still available. They're the same recipes and feature the same tin art as Dunhill's, just re-branded for Peterson.
Peterson here offers Nightcap — a rich blend of Virginia, Oriental, and Latakia tobaccos, intended to be smoked late in the day. It's a smoky, delightfully satisfying mixture, with a hint of Perique added to enhance the bouquet.

Nightcap, ha. I smoked it in the morning with coffee, it was great, the tobacco police never showed up.

A great blend with a lot Latakia smokiness to it. I highly recommend this if that fits your taste

pect perique to either dominate the other flavors or transform them altogether – like what happens with a very good VaPer or an English with Perique such as Blackpoint – but here it weaves in with the Big Three (Latakia, Oriental, Virginia), singling out each one without contributing much of its own flavor somehow. It tastes closer to a standard English than one with Perique. For those purists who want to find out why some smokers rave about English blends with perique, Nightcap is perhaps a decent place to start.
Another criticism I have is that the flavors are *very* subdued and the strength seems overly mellow. Of course, this is characteristic of British culture, especially among the higher classes of monied or landed gentry: stiff tweeds, staid, stoic, and reserved, "stiff upper lip, old chap," and all that. Whether this alignment is intentional or not, it is a little funny.
I expect Nightcap to grow on me, as most Peterson blends I try usually do. This tin is three years old, so it's not well aged but not intolerably young either. Once it decants and starts "breathing" again, it should improve.
*One-week update: nothing is improving. In fact, it's getting worse: all the flavors and aromas are getting weaker. Very disappointing. So... I'll throw this on a bottom shelf in the cellar and forget about it for a few years. It should be a lot better then....Read More

I've been enjoying this with a book before bed for the last week or so. The tin note has an excellent BBQ quality to it, reminiscent of smoked jerky. The taste is savory and delicious, and it has a nice strength.

bowl. The flavor is a little more mild than Engine 99 but it's a little stronger. I got a calming incense and a bit of campfire. Lovely smoke as I sat outside and read my book. I was originally hesitant to try this because it's not listed as a "beginner" blend, but I'm a beginner and love it....Read More
