You rush and you'll only get ashy flavors, so for me is not an all day smoke but one to get along with a dark coffee and a good reading
Also I'd rate the strength with 4 instead of 5 dots since after half bowl the nic-hit comes up even from a very slow cadence...Read More

The Oak & Ember is pretty close to an English aromatic. I will jar it up and smoke it every once in a while. It is just my preference. It does pair nicely with my yerba mate, peppermint, coffee and honey. So if you like to smoke in the morning with your coffee you might like it.

Received this as a free 1oz sample during a promotion. This is a good, solid, basic virginia/burley blend. Smokes well, no bite. I thought the virginias were a little more tangy than other similar blends. Certainly worth trying as a go-to meat and potatoes blend.

Oak and Ember is a mildly cased Burley-forward blend. The Burley is not rough but rather mild and pleasant. A nutty, woodsy taste and scent. Slight spice. A mild sourness that would be expected of Burley not put into any process (like Cavendish). A nicotine hit in the mild plus range.
After a confirmation with Laudisi, the blend has Dark Burley (stronger in taste than White Burley) in the driver’s seat and Red Virginias (more dark fruit) in the passenger seat. There is decent balance, a pleasant retrohale, and the sense you are smoking pure tobacco without a lot of processing. Casing but no topping.
If one is a home blender, and envisioned a blend that contained Dark Burley and Red Virginias, Oak and Ember would be a good start to a newer and perhaps more sophisticated blend end product. Adding a bit of Perique perhaps, or some dark-fired Kentucky, or an Oriental or two ….
I like this a whole lot more than Haunted Bookshop or Old Joe Krantz because it is relatively smoother and more pleasant. On my palate this blend rates 3.0 out of 4 stars on TR and 4 out of 5 stars here....Read More
