About This Pipe
Abe Herbaugh is a skilled American artisan with a deep appreciation for the Danish pipe-making tradition, primarily graceful curves and clean, minimalist lines. Both come through clearly in this long-shank Pear, a lively piece that strikes a nice balance between subtle angles and flowing, manicured lines.
The bowl is tall and full-bodied, rising with a Dublin-like flare from a taut, slightly pointed heel up to a broad, inflated rim. A sleek oval shank follows, gliding gently upward before joining a demurely curved saddle stem. Crisp cheeking at the transition draws a clean line between the bowl's forward cant and the shank and stem's rearward climb. A glossy smooth finish ties it all together, highlighting impressive flame grain across the bowl's flanks and a dense field of birdseye across the rim and top of the shank.
