About This Pipe Tobacco

Joie de Vivre, that magnificent ability to see the joy in everything, and the very embodiment of the festive spirit of New Orleans is the inspiration for this singular, eminently cellar worthy blend. A foundation of fragrant Latakia and sweet red Virginia is joined by equal amounts of Perique and Katerini Turkish to enhance complexity, and then it's finished by a dash of unsweetened black Cavendish for extra smoothness.

Estimated peak: 8-12 years.

A Must Try

Product: Cornell & Diehl Joie de Vivre 2oz
I bought this as my first pipe tobacco and I have to say I think I've found a staple. It tastes great without being overpowering and has a great tin note and an even better room note. To me almost tasting like a smoky barbecue. I opened mine fresh with a November 25 pack date and its great as is. I will be ordering again to age and see how it changes. Did have a problem with gurgling but that could have been me or I could let it dry a bit before smoking....Read More
Buy and store...it demands aging.

Product: Cornell & Diehl Joie de Vivre 2oz
A week ago I opened up all of my tins containing plug/cake blends to place into jars; (2)2 oz tins of Joie De Vivre being among them. These two were dated 13 Feb 2023 (sticker on the bottom), coming up on two years, and so I snuck a pinch. OK, three or four pinches before placing the jar back into storage. So good...yum! I enjoyed it so much I ordered ten more tins; for aging. These new tins are all dated between Jan. and Nov. 2025. So...once again, I took a pinch from the small trimmings added to those new tins; for the purpose of achieving 'weight' I suppose. And yuck! Age is required to enjoy this blend. If you gather some of this up, do not expect to get a true representation of how this will be rewarding in the years to come. While, yes, it is tasty when nearing the two year mark. I am excited to see where it lands in the years to come. So my recommendation is to get some, let it sit in its tins, but do not open it until two years have passed from the date on its stickers. Open them then, or even later and taste it, if you must. Transfer into jars and let it age even more....Read More

Working my way through C&D offerings that sound interesting. This did and has great potential.
This tin was put up 5 months ago and although it's not a bad smoke, I feel it needs a couple years in the celler before it really gets to praiseworthy status.
Crazy good!

Product: Cornell & Diehl Joie de Vivre 2oz
I picked this blend up when I first started smoking a pipe, to try something non aro & expand my horizons. I totally struck gold. It’s everything you could want in a blend. Rich, full, complex, & long lasting. Since then I’ve tried several other English blends by C & D & other brands. I had some I’ve liked as much, but not a one I’ve liked better. At least, anything still in production! This one is hard for me to cellar, as I reach for it often....Read More
Aging Glory

Product: Cornell & Diehl Joie de Vivre 2oz
The date indicated on the bottom of the tin is 2017. It's now 2023. Upon cracking it open, I was hit with a loamy, musty smell, along with spicy aromatic overtones. It's NOT an aromatic though, but rather a well-balanced English with a bit of added unflavored Cavendish. The smoke is just so tasty and refined. No doubt, aging has made a difference. The Latakia is unmistakable, but very well-behaved. And there's just enough sweetness, but not too much. I'm guessing that this blend would be welcomed by both English fans and non-English smokers....Read More
