Smooth, easy burley, with hints of licorice, and just the right kick

The burley is dominant. The latakia and perique are ever present, but always as a complement in the background. The latakia gives it a woodsy, smoky character, and the perique is perfect -- just the right amount of spice -- with a steady constancy. To me, I notice a lovely licorice or anise note in the layers of flavour; it's beautiful. All around, loads of flavour, but never rich nor overpowering -- nice and smooth and deep. Very easy to light and keep lit. No tongue bite. Great smoke for beginners....Read More

I first tried the stuff about 14 years ago and fell in love. Bought some, moved a few times and forgot about it. 2 months ago I found a mason jar from 2016. Still good? It is absolutely fanastic. I wish I realized before I would have bought some every year to keep aging.

This burley ribbon is a fun combination of burley, Perique, and Latakia. The nose detects smoke, leather, char, mulled wine spices and “dust”. The ribbons are fluffy - really fluffy- and variegated browns speckled
with black.

Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.

Lighting up gives a nice Latakia introduction followed by the Perique making sure you recognize that it’s present. Perique is beautifully peppery here. The burley is breast and sweet - this is kind of a burley English in my mind.

The more I smoke it the more my mind thinks of the old Middleton blend “Walnut”. Like it really makes me think of it and I cannot pin down why. I need to smoke them side by side when I get a chance but even just the “feeling” and recall makes me like this blend a little more.

The more I smoked it, the more I liked it. Not sure how much difference aging would make compared to ordering in smaller batches, but I think I’ll probably lay back a pound if for no other reason than to hedge against future availability.

Bet it’s an awesome cold weather season blend.

This one is interesting and pleasant. (*Updated* after two years)

I just received 8oz of this and just now had a bowl. So yes, this is another one of those "after-one-bowl" review. I just started piping in mid-Jan. 2024; two months ago. I didn't look at which T's this blend has in it. What I did get was something I am unfamiliar with. I sat here thinking "is this my first VaPer?" I was so confused by this. Once it burned to near the halfway mark it got a bit more interesting, yet I wasn't sure what to attribute this to. I couldn't wait to go look to see if I was correct. Only to later learn; I was wrong. It is: Perique, Latakia, and Burley. I will likely change today's Star rating in the future, because that's the fair thing to do. But for now, I give it the rating matching the overall average for this; and for it being my first bowl. (*Update* Jan. 2026) This now has 2+ years of age and again, I had no idea of what is in this; for not having looked first. But I went out this morning, with my coffee, and lit the bowl. So here it is; first thoughts were "...this is very mild and difficult to pinpoint what 'T' I am tasting, but it's very pleasant." As I progressed, this got more tasty when gently sipped. There's an interesting 'T' flavor accompanied by a hint of sweetness. "Intrigue" is the one word best describing my time with this. And, for grabbing and keeping my attention throughout, it left me wanting to stock up with more of this. Then allowing it to sit for two years (minimum). So today, I will leave my original rating right where it is; at 4.5★....Read More

Those guys made me see Burley from another point of view, while I never cared for it before. Another excellent balanced blend, this truly requires skills in order to find the fine line, and I notice that this company does this very often. I am smoking a bowl of it as I speak, it is 7 pm, and my long day turned into a deep meditative moment. You like Latakia but don't want to be assaulted by it? Do you love THEIR specific perique that is so dark fruity and at times peppery? Do you then like the burley which is going to wrap all this into a creamy and soft style? Go for this blend....Read More
