This tobacco is unbelievable! It is a new favorite of mine. Upon initial light, it is very latakia forward, but as you smoke it, the turkish/oriental shines through and the latakia becomes more mild. This is an easy smoke with lots of sweet, fruity, nutty flavors. When I want to smoke an English blend, I often fear to do so around non-smokers because of the somewhat terrible room note. I like this a lot. First few times I tried it, I wasn't impressed because I was comparing it to Star of the East. But that's not what this is. It has almost nothing to do with it. As a blend on its own, it's fantastic. It's heavy on the Virginias and Orientals, barely any Latakia present, and that's okay. Stop comparing it to its namesake and you'll start to enjoy it. This blend serves as a change of pace in my rotation. The first half of the bowl is fragrant and light in flavour. Reminiscent of Early Morning Pipe. About halfway through the bowl the flavour starts to strengthen in really stunning way. It becomes earthy and sweet with a hint of sour notes. This goes beyond my memory of Early Morning Pipe. I love the original Star of the East. It's a fantastic blend. I got this on a whim because I love the original. I was not disappointed. I have a bit of T.A.D, so I don't often smoke the same blend over and over. I have been reaching for this for the past few weeks almost every time I fire up a pipe. It's sweet, smooth, and smokey.
