About This Pipe Tobacco

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

1957 celebrates the birth year of the current Erik Stokkebye, the current supervisor of 4th Generation, and fittingly, the fourth generation of Stokkebye tobacconists. He declares this his favorite mixture: Bright Virginias, Burleys, and a touch of Black Cavendish combine to create a perfect harmony in 4th Generation's 1957. A naturally sweet blend, the soft, creamy vanilla adds to the elegant room notes. Perfect for a relaxing moment any time of the day.

Light and enjoyable, great break-in tobacco for newer pipes

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1957 1.4oz
Certainly agree with other reviewers on the note of vanilla, slight note of blackberry and a certain moistness/oilyness to the finish. That said, once lit, the tobacco burns nicely as a sipper, and for this Virginia / VaPer smoker, I find the mixture to to be gentle enough and thus very suitable for breaking in new pipes. Having smoked pipes off and on since the early 90s, several years ago, I returned to purchasing Peterson pipes and smoking Virginia and Virginia mixtures like Capstan Gold Navy and Orlik Golden Slices. These burned hot and I managed to damage a pipe or two. Restocking my collection, I have been gradually breaking in several pipes and found this particular mixture to be extremely well suited to the task. Just bought another tin! Am very much enjoying exploring the entire Stokkebye tobacco collection....Read More

This aromatic tobacco was pretty good. Lots of notes of vanilla. It’s a pretty fun smoke, and if you know how to properly smoke an automatic, it doesn’t get very hot. After smoking this for another few months. I move from 4.5 stars to 3.5. It is still good, but I think this is more accurate. It is a bit too cased for my palate. There are better smokes out there....Read More

Tin note of vanilla, sugared fruit and spices. Tobacco is a Ribbon cut of light brown and brown with a tiny amount of dark brown. Moisture content is ok, but most pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of Vanilla. Vanilla is most prominent in the initial light but drops to the background afterwards. Taste is mild to medium and moderately consistent, with notes of vanilla, tart and tangy citrus, marshmallow, floral, orange zest, wood, spices, sour vegetation, earth, dark dried fruit, bread, savory, acidic, sugar, mildly spicy, a rich, sweet nutty background note, and a peppery retro. Virginias are leading with Cavendish, Virginia and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good....Read More

A vanilla tin note with a hint of berry. I like the subtle sweetness and vanilla. Well done and well blended. It is a very mild cool smoking blend.UPDATE: It also improves with age. It is a good daily blend.

This blend's tin note is lovely; vanilla and some berries. Overall it is a light blend, i was originally shocked there was burley in there, not like other blends with it in there in terms of lacking body. The flavor is vanilla bean and almost blackberry to me. Very Danish styled. It also should be said it has aged 2 years plus. Does need a bit drying out, but absolutely a relaxing blend that is as refreshing as an iced tea...Read More
