One of McConnell's original blends dating back to 1848, Red Virginia is technically a Virginia/Perique pipe tobacco; however, as the named suggests, it prioritizes the Red Virginias, with the Perique used more as a condiment alongside a slightly sweet topping to further enhance the Virginias' natural flavors. Pressed, cut, and rubbed out into a broken flake, it's an ideal blend for Virginia aficionados.

Tin note smells of fermenting grass clippings baking in the summer sun. Taste is fantastic. Toasted bread. I didn’t pickup on any peppery notes from the Perique but that’s fine. I love a good Virginia.

This is my favorite tobacco of all time.
There, I said it, and I mean it.
Unlike a Sutliff red Virginia (which tried to mimic the old McConnell red of the Frog Morton days, with an emphasis on vinegar ketchup bite) this red has a deliciously sweet and fruity fresh flavor. You could also wax on about hey and heather and stone fruit and all the buzz words, but I swear there is a tin note that brings back nostalgic memories of Flintsones multi-vitamins of my youth.
That tin note transitions into the bowl and into the mouth. Tasty!

If I had to say it plainly, I suppose this blend is just a bit quirky.
Nothing about it is really unexpected for a Virginia/Perique. It's fairly middle of the road for the choice components, and I find similarities to other names in the current Kopp Family. I do believe it when they say there is chocolate, which is an odd choice in concept. I don't really taste it, but the tin smells almost exactly like a cherry cordial. I could almost eat it. The overall presence I get from it when smoked is how you might say a coffee is chocolatey. It doesn't taste of chocolate or fruit exactly, but it is more so than you might find in other blends. A very enjoyable smoke. Upon opening the Tin, which had a very pleasant note, I moved it to a jar and let a fair amount air out for around 30-40 mins. The smoke was rich, creamy, sweet, and cool. I think you really have to take your time with it to pull the notes from the tin. I wasn’t able to pull the chocolate note while smoking, but after smoking my palate was left with some hints of cocoa and nuts, and I was reluctant to cleanse it. A great represeentation of a Virginia Red with a touch of Perique flavor is excellent. Casing is pleasant. Smooth flavor, no bite, and works well in my large bowls. Red Virginia like all McConnell blends is made from delicious quality tobaccos. However, the topping is a bit too much for me and can bite. I have found that it needs time to dry and cellaring in a jar a few months tones it down. If you like non-gloopy aromatics this is right your alley.

This blend supposedly has a chocolate flavoring added, I didn't detect anything like that. upon opening the tin I was greeted (not so pleasantly) with a very strong sweet rum casing aroma. I don’t know if they actually case it at all but it sure smells like it. Reminded me of Mac Baren Plumcake Navy blend but this one smelled way more rummy. Moisture from tin was acceptable. It lit easily. Had nothing wrong mechanically. The first few puffs had a slight paint thinner flavor but that dissipated quickly. From that point it was smooth sailing. Was a mellow nutty Virginia with whatever Perique they added being unnoticeable. I’ll be able to enjoy the rest of the tin but I’m still not sure if it’s one I’ll buy again. 亲眼看着这款草从4+分下降到2分，现在略有回升来到3分。也就在1、2年前还是上架秒光的抢手货，真是唏嘘。回到草的本身，现在一股浓浓的调香味，而口感很淡，没什么烟味，大口抽吸会让咽喉有不适的刺激感，过鼻还行也只是还行。在配方再次改变之前，不会再尝试了，失败的改变。

第一次抽的时候，是美国一个朋友赠送的，陈放了多少年我就不知道了，但从外观上比现在的老了许多。第一次抽的感受很好，很有老草的味道，醇和香甜。后来就迫不及待在SP上买了25盒，结果令我非常失望。很人工化学的香味，即使陈放两年后也好不到哪里去。如果你一直抽调味草，这草是不错的选择。但如果你抽的是原味草，我建议您还是多考虑一下再买。
