Smooth Bent Dublin with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Wang Tieyuan, known in the pipe world as Madao3000, began making pipes in 2021 after taking up pipe smoking himself. At the time, he was working as a network engineer, but what started as a way to unwind quickly became a passion. Entirely self-taught, he learned through experimentation, documenting his progress online and drawing advice and encouragement from pipe makers around the world before leaving engineering in 2025 to pursue pipe making full-time. Though he first focused on mastering classic shapes, Madao3000 always intended to make Freehand pipes, and his work today is defined by variety rather than a single signature style. His engineering background continues to influence his approach, with an emphasis on creating pipes that are as effortless to smoke as they are enjoyable to look at.

This bent Dublin is one of the more elongated forms in the Chinese carver's portfolio, with a profile that gives the shape a graceful sense of length. The grain is particularly striking, with well-defined tendrils of flame grain stretching across the bowl and a patch of birdseye peeking across the rim. A crisp ridgeline separates the rim from the rest of the bowl, giving the birdseye above a clean frame. From there, the bowl flows into a broad, almost Horn-like transition, creating an elliptical sense of momentum through the aft of the composition. A warm section of boxwood accents the junction, its pale hue and subtle grain providing a pleasing contrast against the darker stummel and adding another visual element to the profile.
