urley is young and way out front with strong woody, nutty, earthy notes. From the Orientals there's a sweetness and gentle walnut note with a hint of bitter and sour that is ever present. The Perique and Latakia are sparse condiments adding occasional complexity. This is not an all day or a big bowl smoke. There's an occasional harshness and the bitterness sometimes builds to an offputting level, but the nic hit is lovely and ... well let's call it an acquired taste. I always have a blend like this around for the quick 10 minute stress pipe. It would be interesting to smoke this along with the Burley Flake series and see how they stack up. Read Less

Big and Burley puts me in mind of Junk Yard Dawg (my current favorite blend), but sweeter and not as dark. Has substantial vitamin N. I find that I have gravitated to such mixtures that are no nonsense, rich and satisfying. Indeed, a great find.

ought was add to a mellow aromatic, to add some nic-kick. But I was pleasantly surprised that I like this blend...a lot, as is. It doesn't get too hot if you don't huff and puff, and I like the taste. Kind of toasty if that makes sense...? The Nic-Hit is pretty strong but it pairs nicely on its own with a cup of coffee. I think I'll leave it as is for now. I am happy with it! Another C&D winner!

This is not an introduction to English, but a real good burley blend. Has a light flavor which is complex and enjoyable. I would recommend if you like burley based tobacco blends.

give the Burley something to play with. I get cigar notes at times and the orientals pop here and there making this blend feel oh so classy. I love the room note as I get a rich deep cocoa and dirt. It packs and burns easy, I bought a bunch and sat on it for 7 months and it was better as time went on. The perique is there but in the background. Such a smooth cool smoke. Be careful because the nicotine can sneak up on you like it did for me one morning on an empty stomach whilst drinking my black coffee. Great for an after dinner or late night bowl. Read Less

a bit of walnut nuance; the Latakia is minor but noticeable and in very good proportion; the Perique is peppery - akin to black pepper, and it's a bit harsh at times. It's the perique that keeps this from being a better mixture. There's absolutely no sweetness, but adding a bit of red or bright VA changes that. The bitterness is tolerable, but the nicotine level is POWERFUL. Small bowls are a must with this and I prefer Scott's burners: an old classic shaped french stummel in small proportions. my opinion very true. It sat there for 1 year and 3 months and my how it has changed. It still has a slight bitterness but the taste of a butter soft nut comes through the most now. As I neared the bottom third the flavor began to shift to a very slight cocoa taste. The best way to describe it is nuts very lightly dusted with baking chocolate. The nicotine level is up there but I paced myself this time and managed to avoid that throat knot that I had experienced before. I'm an English smoker at heart (HH vintage Syrian, fusilier's ration, MM965, etc.) , but I think as an evening smoke I may have to start reaching for this more often. Also I can hardly detect the latakia and the perique is only noticed in the nose ever so faintly. But I can pick out all but the most minute additions of perique so you may not notice it. Definitely recommend giving this a go but if you're a new pipe smoker I'd hold off a year or so till you have your smoking ritual/technique refined . Read Less

This also has a decent amount of nicotene in it; I'm not particularly sensitive to Vitamin N but I definitely feel it about midway through a bowl of this. a strong nicotine kick. The burley is the front player here. Perique adds a little tingle here and there, while I don't notice the latakia nor orientals at all.
The tobacco smells like burley - or cheap cigar - and the smoke is smelly too. Recommend smoking it outside, so it doesn't stink up the whole house. Read Less

I tried this separately and was too strong. But now I mix with Red Odessa and Bright Virgina (1 oz Burley, 1 oz Red Odessa, 2 oz Bright Virgina). This blend makes for a fantastic taste for myself.

f English blends was no where to be found. I could pick up the taste of Burley, Perique and Orientals though. The tobacco was smoking rather harsh and the nicotine hit was hard, so I had to stop after quarter bowl. This tobacco is OK for every once in a while smoke but definitely not an everyday smoke. I don't think I would call this very complex and definitely not nuanced in any way. It is, however, very satisfying and enjoyable. If you don't like burley and have a low nicotine tolerance, leave this one alone. But if you love burley, you have to at least try it. I can't imagine one not loving it, if the person loves burley. Without any reservation at all this is the worst of the worst. Dry, biting and so barnyard-like I chose to use it as expensive fertilizer for my grapevines for which purpose it will admirably serve. To smoke it is agony unbelievable.
