The C&D Bulk Library Project

Chopped Cigar Leaf
Smoking Pipes rating: 3.6

This blending componet blend is of various cuts and textures, and sells like a cigar. Not sure what more you could want. It’s leathery and reminds me of a tobacco barn on a warm day.

Sampled in a M
M Missouri Pride.

Well, if I’m honest - I didn’t think about blending component blends when I started this little project - but - it is a bulk, it does have a SP rating , so here we are.

As far as a stand alone smoke, I’m sure some folks would like it. It delivers on its face to being what it says - a cigar filler blend. It does smoke smooth. It also tastes “strong” in a good way.

As I had the second bowl, I was looking at yesterday’s entry for Chocolate Cavendish and focused on where I said that blend reminded me of a black and mild. Hmmm.

Wonder if a 50/50 blend of the two would yield a better facsimile? So I tried it.

Sorry kids - it was good - hell probably marketable - but it was just too heavy in the cigar and the chocolate too anemic in that arrangement. But I also know what blend is next to review so not all is lost …..

That said - next time I decide to try blending my own blends, I would be open to playing with the cigar leaf.

My rating : 3- this is good - I’d buy it on sale Or to get free shipping in an order to use playing with blends

Wow ! We are a quarter the way through these blends at this point as this is number 25 of 101.

Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Got some of this and several other blenders to try my hand at blending, this one gets used quite a bit even just added to other blends. I don't think I would smoke this by itself tho. This smells just like a cigar shop when you open it though and that's beautiful
Great Condiment

Perfect as a condiment. I add a pinch to my favorite Balkan or English to shake things up a bit, and it never lets me down. Lately, I've also been adding it in with blends I don't like very much, and some of them are surprisingly quite good with this addition. I've been able to save almost a pound of tobacco from so many tins I was ready to throw away. Give it a try. It'll be like your favorite grilling spice or hot sauce, that stuff you put on everything....Read More

Over 30+ years into both cigars and pipes, I'd never really "co-mingled" their paths.. it was one or the other. I smoke both my pipes and cigars weekly, just never cigar tobacco in my pipe. I wanted to add some variety to my personal blends, and decided to change some things up a bit. The bag note had almost a soured (in a good way) barnyard quality in a powerful fashion, smoked cool however and has brought a component to my blends that hasn't been there. IMO this does need some age, I can't agree with others here though of the association to a premium cigar. This is a good tobacco "in the rough" if you will, but definitely isn't equivocal to a high-end cigar....Read More
A Bowl of Cigar

I love cigars but sometimes I don't have enough time to smoke it. I guess this is the answer I've been looking for. I really hope C&D produced it in flake or ready rubbed.
Powerful

Pretty powerful. I'd use it to beef up weaker blends. Once in a while, having a bowl plain hits the spot.
awesome!

Jar note of very earthy, musty, and mildly pungent. Tobacco is a brown ribbon cut, moisture is good, though some may want to dry it out a bit. It appears the tobacco was pressed and sliced then rubbed out, many chunks can be rubbed down further. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium to strong and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and consistent, with notes of very woody, very earthy, very spicy, mildly bitter nuts, very dry slight bitterness, mild cocoa, cigar, a mildly sour fermented vegetation background note, and a peppery retro. Room note is strong, and aftertaste is good....Read More

I bought 8oz as I trusted its quite high score here . I am very very disappointed when I saw hundreds of stems and unknown particles among those mildew smell leafs. I have sent an email to SP with pictures but can't get any feedback. Won't buy any more.
Bold and Smooth

Wow, five months later, my tastes have changed so much. I really enjoyed this when first making the transition to pipes, but a couple hundred bowls of burleys, Englishes and VaPers later, I've found that I've lost my taste for cigars! Now, this strikes me as an aggressively alkaline experience, so much so that I have trouble tasting anything other than, well, smoke. My wife will come home in a minute and tell me to take a shower. Rating down to 2.5!

For me, a 25 year cigar smoker, the Holy Grail has always been those strong cigars that have lost their sharp edges, in other words: Bold and Smooth. It's a rare thing in a cigar, so pack this in your pipe instead, and experience the Bold and Smooth Organism. Or, something that sounds like Bold and Smooth Organism.

You can also mix this 50/50 to pop up an aromatic like Sutliff Creme Brûlée or PS Nougat. I'm visualizing an Irish Flake with DFK, a silky smooth burly, and cigar leaf. In any application, it's the shiznit.
