My new favorite

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
I bought 7 or 8 different blends to try, and several were recommendations from C&D when I told them what I was looking for. Namely, a good everyday english blend similar to their Palmetto Balkan limited release. This one was in that mix. I REALLY LIKED this one. This and Super Balkan are my new everyday blends. Rajah's Court stands above Super Balkan as it is more flavorful. It smokes easy, no bite, burns to the bottom in every pipe I've tried. I like this one so much I bought a new pipe and dedicated it solely to this blend. My only complaint is that it is not sold in bulk so I can buy bigger bags of it at a time. This is an absolute must try if you are into Balkan style blends....Read More
Even-tempered Balkan

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
This is a Balkan blend that is balanced just right. The tobaccos complement each other quite well. The Orientals are slightly in the lead with the Virginias (I think more Bright than Red) just behind and a Latakia element that doesn't fight for control. I notice a decidedly "creamy" quality in the smoke. I would characterize the strength and flavor as about a “medium”--4 to 5 out of 10. It is quite refreshing even in Florida's torrid summers. I don't smoke it all the time or even every day, but I do try to keep some on hand....Read More
Good English

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
Im a person that struggles a bit when it comes to finding a good latakia containing blend. This one really is the Perfect english blend for me. Its got the right amount of latakia in it to make sure that it lets itslef be known, but isnt over powering. I highly recomend Rajas Court for anyone who is first getting into english blends, its a little more on the sweet side with the virginias, and really stays consistent throughout a bowl...Read More
Perfect Balance

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
Just opened a tin dated '09 this morning & have tried it in 3 pipes already: a narrow, conical-bowled gr 4 full-bent meer, an old H&B Irwin Cobb half-bent, and a "disputatious" MM straight-up cherry-wood. All smoked great, started out with a real Oriental spicy hit, switched to Va sweet pretty quickly w/ spicy overtones in & out, Lat came through about 1/4 bowl & drifted in-out-in all the way. The great thing about all these is that the BALANCE was about as perfect as can be. I'd call it on the light side of medium, but an all-around superb all-day one....Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
This is a very good English blend with noticeable flavor from the Orientals. Just what I was looking for and will get some more. Anyone who enjoys an English will like this one too.
Rajah Court-martialled!

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
Rajah did not live up to its reputation. The faint background ambiance was fine but the smoke left a lot to be desired. Hence reaching out to Savinelli aromatic and my other steady favourites. Even airing did not help much. One positive was that it did not leave behind a lot of tarry goop! SIGH!!...Read More
Just like Esoterica Margate
April 05, 2021
Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
I didn't like Esoterica Margate at first but didn't understand the flavors as being from Oriental tobacco. I started trying more Oriental based/containing blends and really like them. Once I tried Rajah's Court I am hooked. I love the flavor profile as the tobaccos go well together. Yes it is an English with all the usual flavors but this is more of the incense-like flavor that others compare it to. Makes for a light to medium flavor, light on smoke, and no nic-hit. I enjoy other English and Balkan blends but this is my newest favorite and will definitely get more. It has the same components as Margate and tastes the same to me. So if you like the Esoterica blend this would be a perfect substitute. Enjoy!...Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
First bowl from the fresh tin didn't impress. The 'Ginnies & Turks seemed too forward. Revisited it today. Oh my, what a couple weeks did for it.
A near perfect marriage of elements, with a slight edge to the Latakia. Mellow, easy on the palette.
Put me in memory of a long gone fave, Sulliva
n's OO blend from some 50 years ago (back in the day when your local brick & mortar tobacconist was one's sole guide through the plethora of leaves; when Balkan Sobranie was as common as Captain Black)....Read More

I enjoyed most of this tin, just not enough to circle back to it again right away.
Earthy oriental-forward blend

Product: Cornell & Diehl Rajah's Court 2oz
I popped open a 6 month old tin from my modest cellar. It doesn't appear to have any "casing" added, which I appreciate more and more. Without the added weight of the casing, the little tin was stuffed full of tobacco. The tin note is (for me) dominated by the (probably Izmir) Turkish, sour with hints of apple cider vinegar, but sweeter, like a sweet and sour apple. My first briar was right out of the tin. Not bad, but 15 minutes of air drying in the following bowls is preferred. The flavors have some movement. The Oriental is always present, more or less so. The Virginias and Latakia are usually in the background, sometimes moving a bit forward. The complexity lessens about half way as it balances to a pleasant English. The cut is a pretty consistent ribbon for the most part. I find it burns smooth and needs no relight. It stays on the cooler side, too. It'll help your cake, too, as it ashes nice and grey. It is a lighter English in flavor, smoke, and nic. Here's the deal. I order Izmir Turkish to add to non-aromatics, even smoking it straight. This tobacco often isn't too different than straight Izmir, often the same taste but milder because of the balance of the blend. I do think it's a little high, but I'll get it again if it's on sale and I have a hankering for it. For me it's above average, but not a very fave. 3.5 / 5.
EDIT: After finishing a jar, I can say I won't get this again. There are bulks just as good or better, and for a much better price.
