Powerful and penetrating.

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend 1.4oz
The 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend is richly smoky. It proves to be a surprising melange of characteristics of both typically English and Irish blends. The Virginia is present with mild roasted bread and its spice accompanies the savoury smokiness of the Oriental. The Latakia keeps the tobacco pleasantly cool and underlines the background with light incense. An alkaline, salty note is mixed with an astringent effect that lovers of Irish tobaccos call perfumed. Something like the scent of a fine soap. Overall, it's exceptional and something that encourages you to sip comfortably and mindfuly enjoy the components. The ash that remains is light, fine and easy to clean thanks to the scarce condensate....Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend 1.4oz
Tin note of sour fruit, sweet hay and smoky. Tobacco is a coarse cut of brown, black and tan. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and moderately consistent, with notes of smoky, spices, incense, sour peaty vegetation, orange peel, leather, nuts, herbal floral, tangy citrus, toast, spicy, dark dry fruit, wood, earth, molasses, cocoa, a mildly sweet lemon grassy background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Kentucky, Oriental/Turkish and Virginia supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

No dull or harsh spots to be found. The strength and taste levels are medium. This is a very enjoyable blend, one that I could easily smoke any time.

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend 1.4oz
I have tried Stokkebye's aromatics before. For English blends i have prefered two styles; GL Pease Quiet Nights smooth and refined and then there is C&D Big N Burley or Bayou Nights, where sometimes i add more Latakia for some OOMPH. This to me, is a bit of both worlds. It has some complexity smoothness, with some spice from the Orientals, but some oomph with the burley and Dark Fired Kentucky. It is almost sweet in tin note, almost smelled like an aromatic Cavendish. Taste was nutty/ carmelly notes from burley, got some spice, and at times had a Virginia moment where it had the leafy flavor which then went into the bitter note that for me was a bit of Latakia. The Dark Fired Kentucky lent a smoky note that was subtle. This blend is now a favorite for sure. FYI the Tin had 14 month's of age on it...Read More

Very wet. Strong molasses sweet smell. Not bad but the finish tastes a bit of dish soap.

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend 1.4oz
A friend gifted me a 13 year old tin of 1882 Founders Blend. Quite frankly, I'd never heard of it, but gave it a try. I found it to be the best and most luxurious English tobacco I've smoked. A hidden gem for sure.
Fantastic & Well Balanced

Good but doesn't stand out

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founder's Blend 1.4oz
4th generation is good, and that price isn't bad; my issue with it is that you can get bulk English blends that are as good or better for even cheaper. This one was pretty dry in the tin, packs and smokes very well, and actually makes a good ash for working on your cake. It just doesn't stand out....Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founders Blend 3.5oz
I've never tried a 'true' english blend, and frankly, I probably would know one if I smoked it...I'm only going by what others say. So, assuming this is a 'true' english blend, I was nicely surprised by it. I already smoke this brand's 1897 version (for quite a while now) which is fantastic, so it seems that this company has their act together regarding good quality, pleasing, pipe tobaccos....Read More

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1882 Founders Blend 3.5oz
I've been smoking English blends for over 20 years, and this is one of the best. Probably overlooked as not being "serious" because it's nestled in with a handful of aromatics from Erik Stokkebye and because, well, there are about 500 other English blends out there and I haven't had them all, but I'd put this in the top ten currently available....Read More
