Rattray's: Black Mallory 100g Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-055-0017

The basic tobaccos of Black Mallory are Virginia, Black Cavendish, and Latakia. Carefully apportioning of the quantities of seasoning leaf brings about a dark full-bodied mixture. A notable tobacco from Rattray's.

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 50g
Definitely reminds me of Slices without the anise. Love the play of the cavendish and latakia! Will buy more in the future
Very dry

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 100g
Don't know if I got a bad tin or what, but I found this to be very dry, almost as dry as Semois burley offerings...that alone would cause me to toss it if i can't rehydrate it.
The saving grace is how tasty I found it as I really, really don't like English blends with Latikia that overwhelm the o
ther tobacco in the blend and this does not though I'll probably blend this with a little HGL for a small change in flavor profile.
Thinking I'll jar 50g of the tin and experiment with the rest just because I can.
The best I can forsee is smoking a bowl of this every couple of weeks and slowing down my cadence as the dryness makes it burn really hot.

This is very interesting. I would say that the addition of Black Cavendish gives this English an interesting licorice type flavor to it. I love that smokey licorice when the Latakia and Cavendish marry in the can. It's a pretty great one.

Very good, very different. So refreshing to take a break from the G.L.Pease/Drucquer/C&D=Laudisi monopoly. Relatively full bodied without coating the tongue and palate. Smoky and spicy, sour, and also very sweet without a cloying, fake taffy topping. Also, the antimicrobial used by all of Laudisi's companies seems delightfully lesser in quantity if not entirely absent here....Read More
awesome!

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 50g
Tin note of mildly sweet smoky. Tobacco is black, light brown and dark brown Ribbon cut. Moisture content is ok, some may need to dry it a bit. Burns slow with few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is mild to medium and somewhat consistent, with complex notes of wood, floral, smoky, sugar, leather, toast, spice, lemon zest, herbal, sugary savory, buttery, smooth, dry earth, mildly acidic/spicy, mild incense, a mildly tangy citrus, background note, and a mild peppery retro. Latakia is barely beating Virginias for the lead with Cavendish and Oriental/Turkish providing excellent support. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

A good English blend slightly Oriental forward not too much Latakia but noticeable. The strength rating is about medium.
Great classic Latakia blend

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 50g
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Latakia blends. Now I need to try Red Rapparee as I’ve been enjoying oriental forward Lat blends lately. Something tells me that Black Mallory and Red Rapparee would be good mixed 50/50.

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 100g
Sweeter than Red Rap.
Smoky, and leathery like Red Rap.
It’s Red Rap, with the added sweeter Virginia.
Hits the right spots.
Complex Perfection

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 50g
Such a complex full bodied English blend. The blend wraps you around its smoke and aroma and unleashes a full body massage. Smoke it slow and let it melt your stress away.
Good Flavor

Product: Rattray's Black Mallory 100g
Way too much cavendish. This has a 'hollow' like body as the proportion of cavendish is much too high. Too one-dimensional; cavendish and Latakia. The Black Cavendish delivers some artificial sweetness. When pushed it can have a remarkably thin and paper-like flavor. The Latakia is moderate with more emphasis on the Black Cavendish. VERY similar to Peterson's MM965, but sweeter (artificially). Cornell & Diehl’s Constellation is also similar, but Black Mallory has less Latakia, and more cavendish and is much sweeter than Constellation due to the addition of invert sugar. Constellation is deeper in flavor. I still prefer Constellation however, as the Orientals clash with my PH and C&D manufacturers a much more pure product....Read More
