Flake Blue 1.75oz Pipe Tobacco

Capstan Flake Blue is a beautifully refined Virginia that manages to be flavorful without becoming fussy. The tobacco presents a natural sweetness with notes of bread, hay, light citrus, and a darker dried-fruit character that develops as the bowl progresses. What I appreciate most is the balance. There is enough depth to keep the smoke interesting, but nothing feels forced or overworked. The sweetness is clearly tobacco-driven rather than aromatic, and the overall profile remains clean, smooth, and composed from beginning to end. As with most flakes, a little attention to preparation pays off, but once properly packed and lit, Capstan Blue rewards you with a cool, steady smoke and very little harshness. It has enough body to satisfy, while still retaining the elegance I look for in a traditional Virginia. For me, this is an excellent benchmark Virginia flake and one I would happily keep in rotation....Read More

Capstan represents wonderfully dark side of Virginias. Moist dark good size flake. smell is sweet stone fruit in the tin. Taste is superb: less grass and citrus and more bread with wonderful raisins and stewed fruit. Number 1 in the rotation for me.

Delicious flakes, beautifully packaged and delectable tin note. Grass and citrus to plum towards the end of the bowl. All these poor reviews based on price. This stuff is 113$ a can in Canada. It’s good stuff, and due to supply and demand the prices have gone up. Get used to it. Everything shipped will soon cost more due to American politics and wars....Read More

Everywhere you look you see reviews stating, “This isn’t the same tobacco JRR Tolkien smoked.” However, the way I see it is that this is the closest you can get. It’s like seeing The Who but there is only two of them left. Of course it isn’t The Who my uncle saw in 1979 though he reminds me every time it comes up. However, it’s what you have access to. Lore aside this is a good tobacco and isn’t too strong for beginners. It is a fun one to have in your cellar, and though it is more expensive than other tobacco’s it can be a nice one to pull out on hobbit day or when you’re inevitably going down the middle earth hobbit hole for the third time this year....Read More

I have nothing but good things to say about this blend. The Virginias are sweet on the tongue have a pleasant hay aroma in the room note. The Tin note (to me) smells like sweet hay/vinegar. the flake was easy to handle and break up overall this has easy become a top blend for me.
