Tin note was of dark fruits and wet wood. Room note was of straight, manly, strong tobacco. Taste was spicy and fruity, but all-natural, it was a very fine smoke and I gave the rest of my tin to a cigarette smoking friend to get him into pipe smoking, and it worked! needs little to no drying time and can be smoked right out of the tin immediately and should be jarred immediately after opening or it will become bone dry very quickly. During the smoke you are presented with a delicious experience of earthy, bready, tangy Virginia and red and black pepper spice from the perique. Careful with the retro-hale as it is all pepper and doesn't apologize. Now let's talk nicotine. You are going to want to smoke this blend after having a big breakfast or brunch and it pairs well with coffee or iced tea. You are going to want to also take your time as the nicotine comes on strong, straight from the full belly feel to the sweats and if you push past that, well we know what comes next. lake, I tend to rub this one out a tad and dry it out just a little before packing. Flavor on this one is plums, pepper, and grass with a touch of honey. I tend to enjoy this with a cup of coffee in the morning...the nicotine hit on this one is a good wake up and the bold flavor of the high Perique content balances well with a bold cup of coffee. sh honey delight the olfactories. These variegated dark brown (broken) flakes are moist and rub out easily; their cut width and light compression are unmistakably C&D. The flavor is strong and peppery, and it's consistently so throughout the pipe. The Old Belt Red Virginias aren't bready and hay-like as you find in lighter Virginias; they're savory, rich, and robust in flavor—something seasoned pipers are bound to enjoy. BMF's 25% Perique content also lends the flavor many positive characteristics typical of the unique component. It's right on the verge of being too much—just enough to make a radically bold flavor profile. The flavors and sensations of the Perique come through clearly, not muted in any way. The two components compliment one another perfectly. Naturally, the large amount of Perique makes this a very strong blend nicotine-wise. Contrary to what its name may suggest, it's more of an afternoon or after-dinner smoke. If you're not used to nicotine, it'll turn you into a boiled frog. Even the well-initiated piper will likely find this blend too strong for an "all day smoke". As with most all blends, flavor improves with age. I smoked my first tin over a nine month period, and the flavor got a little smoother, but no less bold. My overall opinion? This is excellent stuff; its strength will surprise even the most seasoned smoker, and its bold flavor profile will satisfy even the most demanding palette. Read Less

the tin expecting an english blend, I was taken aback by the first flake tobacco I'd ever seen. It was very handsome looking, but I had no idea what to do with it, so I made it look like any other tobacco I'd ever smoked by ripping up and rubbing it out. It was a rare cool Summer morning, so I loaded it into my favorite cob (what else do you smoke anything bayou related in) and headed outside. It looked great, smelled great, tasted great... and then I lit it up. Within about 20 puffs, I turned 50 Shades of Green. I walked back in the house, threw out the pipe and tin of tobacco and never thought twice about it. Now, 14 years later, I find myself reaching for other perique blends I've cellared over the years wishing I would have done the same with that tin of Bayou Morning Flake. Fortunately it's still available for purchase, unlike my favorite McClellands. Read Less

I have to be clear here. Sometimes those big "Wow!" tobaccos give me great impressions, but I can smoke them only once in a while, not on a daily basis. Meanwhile, those small "wows", even though with less impressions, are more important, cause your hand just reaches them spontaneosly every day, avoiding the big "Wows".
I guess food comparison would do well here: a big Wow is like some nice dessert or great spicy dish, while the small wow is your regular meat or bread.
Overall, great VAper, definitely one of the best. Reffering to its name I have to say that it's really excellent for morning smoke, but only for those folks who enjoy a nice doze of nicotine and full tobacco flavor in the morning like myself, because this stuff is closer to strong on the scale of medium to strong, or just right in the middle of it.
Highly recommended for VApers and Perique lovers and to those who like full flavored, mature, earthy/nutty/leathery with some subdue sweetness, real tobacco taste.
