About This Pipe Tobacco

For their Green River Vanilla, the folks at C&D took Burley from the Green River Valley of Kentucky, fire cured and expertly blended it to be mellow and smooth, and flavored it with an outstanding vanilla.

I found this to be horribly lacking both in flavor and smokability. Overall the tobacco was uite moist requiring a decent drying time. Once lit, lt crackled and required the more than usual relights. In as much as there is some tobacco flavor present the vanilla is non existent. The tin note is pronounced but it doesn’t carry over to the smoke. The room not is of weak tobacco. It left my pipe a dripping mess. This is better used as a blender, if that....Read More

I really enjoy vanilla aromatics. This one is almost perfect, imo. Its not overkill on the vanilla flavor, but just enough. Does come a little moist and sticky.

Smoking Pipes rating: 3.6

This oily to the eye and touch aromatic* sizzles when lit and is comprised of black cavendish.

Sampled three times in a MM Missouri Pride.

Aromatic*.

It surprised me to see GRV listed
as an aromatic and not as a blending component. Mainly because I see it listed distinctly as an ingredient in other blends . Sure one could say it’s just a process burley - but then again isn’t DFK , Perique and cigar leaf all burley that’s processed in unique ways ?

Anyway - when I fired up the bowl I was surprised at the pronounced “sizzle” I got. Expected a lot of steam - and bite - but that never materialized. Interesting. The vanilla flavor tastes good. It does not feel forced , just strong and “confident”. Leaves the bowl kinda soupy …
This blend should come with training wheels - it’s probably a great first bowl for someone who’s dead set on starting with aromatics. I bet it’s a hit with folks who find mayonnaise to be too spicy , too.

I’m in a quandary here. As a blending component , I’d give it a 3. As an aromatic in its own feet , I’d give it a 2.5. But as something I’m willing to cellar , aligning with my scale, honestly it’s a 2.

It starts well, fades to nothing and leaves you a mess to clean up.

My rating : 2- meh. It’s ok but I won’t mind never having it again, but I’ll smoke what I got

This is #27 of 101 blends In the C&D bulk category I am reviewing.
