A rather unique tobacco. The base is quite soft, fruity, and genuinely floral. And, as the Korean gentleman mentioned in his review, there is a very slight hint of doenjang (fermented soybean paste) — living in Korea, I immediately recognized it. The Perique adds a pleasant and interesting touch of spice, while the Virginia brings sweetness and ties everything together beautifully. No Picnic

I hope I wouldn’t offend anyone by saying that going through the tin of this blend was no picnic. Major reason is I really don’t care much for the Virginia. My preference goes to red/dark Virginias with sweet dark fruit taste. Here, golden Virginia tastes like lots and lots of hay with some lemon like tanginess and not nearly enough sweetness by far. Orientals tasted slightly spicy, earthy and almost pungent, dusty, a bit herbal. I couldn’t really taste Perique all that much except for slight spiciness that could easily have come from Izmir. Taste stays the same throughout the bowl.
I didn’t like this blend in meerschaum pipes. It did much better in briar pipes. I liked it the most in extra-large Northern Briars poker.
Altogether, this blend requires smoker who digs Golden Virginias. Since this someone is clearly not me I probably will not come back to this blend....Read More

if there was a quintessential American pipe tobacco (without favored topper) this would probably be in high contention. light sweetness, full smoke, the Perique and Izmir play very well with each other, balancing earthy & sour. this is a solid year round smoke, built well for the summer and spring, but would be lovely for winter and fall. this is also a great blend for cutting your heavy English and aromatics.

The orientals make this good blend even better. The cake/broken still allows for some good fermented sents when you crack it open. Age will be the key here.
