Unique and tasty, but intense.

Funny that anyone could think of this as a light smoke. The brandy finish is really rich and lingers all day. It tastes like a Christmas pudding. I like it, and it's something I'd want to have around, but it is very specific.
Nice, light and lovely!

What a nice light and lovely little smoke! Reminds me of my first experience of Haddos Delight before I cleaned my pipes with peroxide. Then I tastes sweetness and spice with that blend, after cleaning I tasted sweetness spice, a bit of earthiness, I... Read More

This blend, while revered by many aromatic smokers, is not one of my favorites but does offer a change of pace from my normal VA-Per or DT blends. It does require substantial drying time for my use. It doesn't leave an offensive ghost in a briar. T... Read More

Satisfying Blend

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
I cannot think of a single reason to dislike this blend, although I will make the concession that the 8oz can is better humidified than the 2oz can but overall this is a very small complaint. As already mentioned this is a great blend for around the... Read More
house and will burn very slowly and easily. The tobaccos are mostly a deep red, with very fine cut Burley and larger ribbons of Virginia and Perique. It packs easily and the flavor is full without being heavy and cloying. The brandy note sits well upon the palate and is present through out the bowl, it pairs nicely with the smooth and earthy flavor of the components. As the brandy is flashed off the flavors really begin to develop and the dark sweetness of the blend emerges. This could be a substitute for almost any sweet and spicy dark baked delight in memory, with notes of honey, dates, figs, sweet spice and perhaps glazed cherries. Every G.L. Pease blend that I have tried I would purchase again but this has easily made it's way into my regular rotation. Do yourself a favor and buy the 8oz size, you will be glad you did. Read Less
Very Good Tobacco

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 8oz
Lots of big, full smoke from this tobacco. Very good burly tobacco. Burns very well and extremely cool. I like the flavor.

This blend is just not my cup of tea. The brandy casing is just a bit much. I'm sure others love it.

Not Cube Cut

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
I smoked it years ago and suddenly wanted to reminisce and bought a tin, but the new one has nothing like what I remembered inside. The new cut is crumbly, the room note is cloying, and the aftertaste in my mouth is bitter. Kind of disappointing.
I don't reach for it often, but its good

Tin note of brown bananas, sugar and spices. Tobacco is a small course cut and Ribbon of brown, tan, light brown and dark brown. Moisture content is ok. Most pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medi... Read More
um and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of Brandy. Flavoring flashes off upon initial light and moves to the background where it remains. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of sweet alcohol, sugar, spice, floral, toast, grassy, nuts, dry, bitter, very woody, molasses, tangy mild dark fruit, zesty orange peel, earthy, mildly savory, a spicy semi-sweet peaty vegetation background note, and a very peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Perique, Burley and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great. Read Less

The description nails it as far as the flavors and aroma, the tin note reminds me of dark dried fruit like fig or plum. I d get the nutty taste and for me it really comes through on the retro hale. For me however this wonderful tasting tobacco is not... Read More

Came today with a brand new Peterson XL-11 Dracula, my first. Nice pipe! Regarding the tobacco, I popped the tin and was hit with an almost floral aroma that appears to be just tobacco and brandy tinned 10/21. It’s a nice cube cut with some ribbon m... Read More
ixed in and fairly moist at first. Having abandoned conservative acts for the day, I loaded up the new Pete for it’s first smoke. I’ll admit to being a cube cut Burley lover and that’s what this is but after Mr. Pease worked his magic, the sort of mundane character of CC Burley is transformed completely. It’s not in your face with strength or aroma but both are definitely there in sufficient quantity to make it a really nice smoke…keep in mind that this is with an unsmoked brand new pipe. I’ll work my way through this tin and may buy more as it’s a very pleasant smoking experience, nothing overwhelming, just a nice easy smoke. I may have more to say in the near future but my first impression is very positive. Read Less

s just the right notes, The room note is pleasant, I'm not sure it's a crowd pleaser, but it's pleasant enough not to offend. I do not smoke this often, but I've usually got some around as a change of pace smoke. If I were more of a Burley fancier I'd smoke this all day! It's an OLD Pease classic mixture, very worthy of your attention Read Less

If you open the tin and compare it to a pouch of SWR, the basic cut is the same: chunky/ cub cut. The Barbary however, has a darker, richer look to it and it smokes that way. If you like burley blends it is certainly worth trying. This is one I do wi... Read More

rong in the tin but the topping only accentuates the dark fruity taste of the perique which is perfect, because in tin I got it is mighty peppery/spicy. The chocolatey and nutty burley taste is always up front and I find the virginia in this blend perfectly brings everything together with some sweetness. I feel like by the time I try all the Pease/D&S blends, they will be the only ones in my cellar/rotation. This one stays for good. Read Less

Very enjoyable. I don't feel the same as some of the other reviews in that I don't feel the top note of Brandy is strong. To my taste buds its mild and enhances the blend nicely.

Nice Burleys but did not like the toppings. It reminds me very much of some of the old timer blends that my pipe smoking mentors preferred but I don't. This one will not go into my rotation, not sure I will even finish the tin.
