The perfect "all-day" smoke!

Colors Meers

I love the flavor. I smoke the pirates out of this blend to color my meerschaums. I don’t know why it works so well. It has brandy in it. And, when alcohol is used for cleaning the tobacco chamber in meers, it destroys the pipe’s ability to color. However, apparently, when used as a tobacco additive, it enhances the ability to color. IDK? But, in my experience Barbary Coast has worked this way. Please, look into alcohol and meerschaum before taking this review to your collection, though. It works for me. And, I love this stuff....Read More
Good Smoke

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
Its good. I've been smoking it a lot lately. It's in my rotation. It doesn't blow me away though. It's just okay. The brandy is what makes it. Makes ya feel like a pirate on a ship, the sea mist hitting you in the face, the delicious smoke billowing. Ah maybe it's better than okay, it's pretty dang good....Read More
Barbary Fields Forever

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
This blend is awesome, the Red Virginia is more dominant early on but by the half way point the brandy fades some and the Burley ramps up, this is definitely sweet for a Burley blend. The brandy works well adding to and bringing out the dark fruit flavors from the Virginia and Perique, the Burley is nutty and earthy it is a fairly complex and unique blend. The cut says cube but it’s more of a pebblecut with some ribbon, super easy to pack and smokes nice and cool with no issue if you give it a good tamp before you get going. I don’t often dry my tobacco but I was curious with this blend so I dried it out for a couple hours and it became an entirely different animal. 5 STARS 🔥...Read More

Update: a couple of months after I posted my initial review. I should have known better with glp's. I humbly change my score from 2.5 to 4.5. I got it. I pulled it out after a couple of months in the jar and try to a few different pipes and something just clicked. I think it was my inexperience with Burley forward blends. At first taste I hated it, But now I can't get enough of this. There's something weird about burley. It doesn't taste as sophisticated leather Cabernet Sauvignon like a great Virginia perique. It's got this ammonia vinegar thing going on on the subtle level but it's delicious. I've smoked half the can in 2 days. This is a medium strong blend you feel the nicotine but it doesn't overdo it. Now it's in my top five....Read More
Not Cube Cut

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
I smoked it years ago and suddenly wanted to reminisce and bought a tin, but the new one has nothing like what I remembered inside. The new cut is crumbly, the room note is cloying, and the aftertaste in my mouth is bitter. Kind of disappointing.
I don't reach for it often, but its good

Tin note of brown bananas, sugar and spices. Tobacco is a small course cut and Ribbon of brown, tan, light brown and dark brown. Moisture content is ok. Most pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of Brandy. Flavoring flashes off upon initial light and moves to the background where it remains. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of sweet alcohol, sugar, spice, floral, toast, grassy, nuts, dry, bitter, very woody, molasses, tangy mild dark fruit, zesty orange peel, earthy, mildly savory, a spicy semi-sweet peaty vegetation background note, and a very peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Perique, Burley and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More
Extremely flavorful

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
Amazing flavor the brandy notes really come in at about 50% the cube cut burley really helps brings this blend together. I love a strong smoke but I do have to say this kicks a little bit more than the average 3,2,3. It will definitely be one of my go to after dinner tobaccos. I can highly recommend for anyone who like a strong forward fronted burley with good notes of alcohol in this case brandy....Read More
Surprising

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
Came today with a brand new Peterson XL-11 Dracula, my first. Nice pipe! Regarding the tobacco, I popped the tin and was hit with an almost floral aroma that appears to be just tobacco and brandy tinned 10/21. It’s a nice cube cut with some ribbon mixed in and fairly moist at first. Having abandoned conservative acts for the day, I loaded up the new Pete for it’s first smoke. I’ll admit to being a cube cut Burley lover and that’s what this is but after Mr. Pease worked his magic, the sort of mundane character of CC Burley is transformed completely. It’s not in your face with strength or aroma but both are definitely there in sufficient quantity to make it a really nice smoke…keep in mind that this is with an unsmoked brand new pipe. I’ll work my way through this tin and may buy more as it’s a very pleasant smoking experience, nothing overwhelming, just a nice easy smoke. I may have more to say in the near future but my first impression is very positive....Read More
Delightful, but heavy

Product: G. L. Pease Barbary Coast 2oz
The description nails it as far as the flavors and aroma, the tin note reminds me of dark dried fruit like fig or plum. I d get the nutty taste and for me it really comes through on the retro hale. For me however this wonderful tasting tobacco is not an all day smoke, I think it's a very heavy smoke. More of an evening porch smoke for me....Read More
