This is a fantastic burley forward blend. Brings deep burley notes, backed up and enhanced by the cigar leaf. If you are a cigar smoker looking to experience a pipe tobacco while providing you with some familiar ground this is your ticket. I started smoking cigars before taking up the pipe and wish I had known about this blend sooner. The Virginia and perique seem like background players that balance the deep earthy, chocolate, and malty flavors from the burley/cigar combo. I wish they would have named this something besides "Billy Budd." It has very little in common with the original BB. Generally, the Virginia and Perique are what stand out, with an occasional light cigar taste that comes and goes and the burleys add a rough edge from time to time. It's not bad, but a bit disappointing when expecting a lighter form of BB. I think a dab of unsweetened Cavendish would make this blend better by mellowing some of the rough edges. I'm going to jar it up and give it a few months to see if the flavors come together a bit and I it smoothes out with age. I'll update the review if things change significantly....Read More

I always have seemed to get into every single tobacco blend I've bought so far. Some better than others of course. But this just doesn't take. It's as if I crushed up left over cigar leaf and started smoking it. I've tried sitting with this to see if anything else comes out, but nope. Just cigar leaf. Not pleasant, and boring. To me, the burley and cigar leaf are the stars of the show here. The virginia is still very forward, it's almost as if they take turns as to which will hit your tongue first, but they're all coming through together. The perique, to my taste, plays a very important supporting role while still being detectable. The black cavendish helps smooth it all together, really just helps the texture. I don't really notice the flavor except in the aftertaste. Really good nicotine hit. The room note is very much like a naturally sweet cigar, very pleasant to me, but I don't think the girlfriend would be happy if I smoked this one inside....Read More

Package note of pungent stink, mild cocoa and vegetation. Tobacco is a mix of broken flake and ribbon cut of orangish brown, tan and a little darker brown. Moisture content is great. No drying/prep needed. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium to strong and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of peaty fermented vegetation, dry sour, spiced raisins, bitter dark cocoa, slightly acidic, spicy cigar, tart and tangy dark fruit, floral, herbal grass, a savory nutty citrus background note, and a very peppery retro.
