Like most of C&D's blends, this blend is good. The tobacco is obviously high quality and the blending is balanced. However this blend is kind of flavorless to me. The cut is a coarse ribbon and mixed in are fairly large chunks of broken flakes. The moisture content is good and it burns requiring minimal relights. Overall it burns medium-warm. The flavor is hard to describe, I mostly get a woody/tannin-y taste. I get a lot of spice, that almost borders on bite. There's a faint hay/citrus flavor underneath all of that. It’s the Burley

I’m not sure, but the Burley sets this apart from other mixtures without it. I’ve done some comparisons and found I like the Burley mixed in. I’m not a big fan of Burley but in Old College it works. Some might find it just average, but I find it rather enjoyable. It has enough complexity for an English tobacco. Bought eight ounces on a whim, but after smoking about half in a number of pipes I’ve grown to like it. Maybe I like Burley more than I thought I did. It might not be Summa Cum Laude but is still near the top of the class. I might like it more as I smoke more of it. This mixture is just about right for me....Read More

The C&D Bulk Library Project Old College Smoking Pipes rating : 3.2 Bag presented some nice Latikia smokiness over the hay sweet smell of Virginia ; this english blend is mixed cuts with random black flakes mixed into mostly gold and brown. Sampled in a conditioned MM Missouri Pride. Started the day with this blend, literally. Had a bowl in the way to, and after , going to the gym this morning. And that worked because it’s is a very soft English. The Latakia was not too bold, but present and nice. I don’t drink a lot of coffee; this morning like most I opted for Irish Breakfast tea ( no sugar , touch of crème) and it was perfect together. The Virginia drives this delicious blend, the burley and cavendish adding some backbone and support and the Latakia is almost condimental here. Well done. At lunch I ran out for an errand and caught a quick third bowl. Smoked faster and hotter , it forced the Latakia up front a bit. Just a promise of leather and iodine. I see a 1/2 lb coming my way soon , to cellar a year and revisit. Sweeter than Constellation and Less Latakia

I like this! This closely resembles Constellation, though it's more mellow, definitely sweeter and has far less latakia. The burley can get a bit bitter towards the end, but smoked cool will help alleviate that. Whereas Constellation has a bold earthy/smoky profile that can be heavy on the tongue, and which derives its sweetness from the black cavendish, Old College has more VA and less latakia. A note on that sweetness: sweetness from the cavendish is different than say a virginia... it's less sharp and isn't as deep. That difference is akin to candy (virginia) vs a pear (cavendish).
