Nice Va/Per but there are better options

First of all let's get this out of the way: I don't care what you read on the internet but this is not the same as Sutliff's 507C. You can just tell by looking at it, not to mention the tin note (bag note, if you will) and, of course, the taste. Yes, it is similar, but if you can't tell the difference you need to stop writing reviews on matters of which you have no clue. I swear, SmokingPipes needs to put a 2 year block on new accounts before they're allowed to post anything close to having an opinion. Anyway, on to the review: As stated, it is sweet and fruity like 507C but just the slightest bit less so. The perique does give it some spiciness and depth, albeit gingerly. My main complaint is there is a slight bitterness in the back of the throat. I know it's no Orlik, but for bulk it's not bad. I just can't get past the bitterness. For a similar Va/Per that's just a hair less sweet but better balanced (and no bitterness) I would recommend Erik Stokkebye's Evening Flakes. Update: I smoked a pipe of this last night with a cup of Celestial Seasoning's Mandarin Orange and noticed there was no more bitterness. I wasn't sure if it was the tea so I had another pipe for breakfast today and sure enough, it's all but gone. It only took 9 months. This upgrades the tobacco definitely. I just wish I had known before I struggled through the first 8 ounces. (Yes, don't buy a pound based solely off of people's opinions on the internet. However, had I not I wouldn't have found out about the aging). Still leaving the same stars since I have to age it myself to "fix" it....Read More
Great stuff not the same as 507C

I know the rumor I read the posts etc but the bag note and the smoking of these two are different. I know a guy who thinks they are the same but I am saying my experience is way different. They're both great but they are different to me. I actually think that PS LNF is better than 507C.
All day smoke

I thought I wasn't a Virginia guy, but I love this stuff. I could smoke just this and be happy. I won't but I could haha. I'll probably try to get a few pounds of this to keep.
Excellent substitute of other coins and expensive flake

Raw tobacco: flower and grass fragrance, honey smell
first half: same taster like Davidoff medallion, Escudo and Orlik red
last half: good tea and choc coffee smell
Can’t go wrong

It’s a great VaPer for the price. A workhorse smoke that will deliver consistently. It does tend to bite without dying time. The Virginias are tangy like stewed, slightly fermented fruit. Perique provides some spice on the retrohale but is subdued otherwise, in my opinion.
I do prefer Luxury Bullseye Flake because the cavendish rounds out the edges. I actually mix both of them and enjoy that way. Bottom line though, this is a solid pipe smoker’s bulk tobacco in a world increasingly fraught with small batch hype runs and flashy marketing masquerading as true artistry. You don’t need a silly name and cool tin art to make good tobacco. Not all superheroes wear capes....Read More
Smooth Sailing
April 01, 2025
Product: Peter Stokkebye PS400 Luxury Navy Flake Bulk
Luxury Navy Flake is hands-down one of the best Virginia flakes out there. I absolutely love this tobacco. From the moment you open the bag, you're greeted with the fresh, grassy sweetness of quality Virginias. It's clean, bright, and inviting.

The flakes are easy to rub out or fold and stuff
, and they burn like a dream. What really makes this blend shine is its natural sweetness—there's no topping here, just pure, golden Virginia goodness. It’s smooth, with subtle notes of citrus, hay, and just a hint of breadiness that keeps things interesting from start to finish.

Whether you're kicking back on a porch or taking a quiet moment to yourself, this flake delivers a consistently satisfying, mellow smoke. It’s straightforward, elegant, and always enjoyable. If you're a Virginia lover, or even just curious about flakes, this one’s a must-try. Simple, honest, and absolutely stellar.

Virginia masterpiece!

Product: Peter Stokkebye PS400 Luxury Navy Flake Bulk
Slowly venturing into the world of Virginia’s. This is my third Virginia blend, so far the only other two I’ve tried are GL Pease Windjammer and C&D Briar Fox. Briar Fox was a no go for me, I guess it was just too Virginia forward and had too many similarities to the taste and smell of cigarettes. When I stumbled upon Windjammer, now this is what I was looking for in a Virginia! I didn’t think I would find another that was similar but was atleast heading in the direction that I was looking for.
Upon reading reviews on Luxury Navy Flake I decided to pick up 1oz to see what the hype was about and I’m sure glad I did! This is similar to Windjammer but I find it’s a little more subtle and toned down. You can detect the perique but it’s floating around in the background as a very nice compliment to the sweet Virginia’s. I would say this is a notch down from Windjammer in strength but still definitely worthy of being in the top of the rotation.
It’s sweet and citrusy, you really can detect the smoother bready note which helps round the flavour out with the added perique. Retro hale is a little spicy which I like but the sweetness still shines through. This is a very good blend, I’m glad I decided to try it. In fact, I ordered 2 more oz’s immediately after! I honestly prefer a flake over ribbon cut so this is a plus for me as well. Moisture content was spot on especially being a bulk blend. Very tasty, I think I have found the 2 Vaper’s that will always have a spot in my regular rotation!

507C Replacement

Product: Peter Stokkebye PS400 Luxury Navy Flake Bulk
For those looking for a replacement for the venerable Sutliff 507C Virginia Slices, it was recently shared that this blend and 507C are one and the same. The latter was being manufactured by STG for Sutliff and lives on as PS400.

This stuff burns well and easily, requiring few relights and i
t has a pleasant aroma. As a straight Virginia it's a straightforward flavor experience, a one note character if you will, but it's always ready and reliable....Read More
Poor Man’s Escudo in flake form

Product: Peter Stokkebye PS400 Luxury Navy Flake Bulk
Quality vaper whether you’re on a budget or not. IMO really doesn’t require cellaring, but does benefit from putting some extra time on it. I do liken it to Escudo, although not quite as smooth. It requires no apologies, and certainly an alternative if you like buying bulk and looking to save a few dollars....Read More
