About This Pipe
Henri Sørensen studied pipe making under Jens "Tao" Nielsen, Tom Eltang, and Lasse Skovgaard, and still takes a great amount of influence from these titans of Danish pipe making. A Dane himself, Henri originally worked as a glazier before turning to pipes, and has very much developed his own style that is complemented by his knowledge of the Danish school and its distinct traits.
Henri put forth some of his best design and execution with this Acorn, which comes to a satisfyingly distinct point at the heel. Tall flame grain decorates the bowl in the stretch between the heel and the heavily inflated rim, which is ringed with birdseye. The grain orientation is similar on the shank — birdseye on top, flame grain on the flanks — which subtly flares outward toward the face. The stem is saddle-style cumberland with short shoulders and a light, gradual bend to the bit. Between the cumberland stem and the rich, red-tinged stain of the stummel, this pipe is not only well-designed but pleasantly rich in color, and a great find for any fans of the Acorn shape.
