Manufactured in a century-old brick building in picturesque Lauenburg, Germany, Dan pipe tobacco has gained quite a worldwide reputation among smokers, with a wide variety of blends and cuts on offer. Andreas Mund became the successor in charge of production when master blender Jürgen Westphal retired, and is assisted by Heiko Behrens as well as Michael Apitz of Dan Pipe.

Old Ironsides is my favorite blend. I started trying the rest of Dan's stuff because of it. They can be hit or miss with me. Overlooked London Blend bc I didn't want to spend $30 on something I might hate and be stuck with 2 tins worth. I finally took the plunge and I'm so glad I did. Strong, full bodied and unique. It's not Old Ironsides level for me but it's almost there. And don't get me started on the finish, even with a strong cup of Sumatra coffee as my pipe companion, the finish stays with me for several minutes after putting the pipe down for good. Old Ironsides is a once a week treat for me due to it's scarcity, with London Blend, I can smoke it everyday and I'm glad I can bc I actually crave this blend, it's that good...Read More

Strong yet subtle

This blend, as said in the description, is pretty heavy handed on the latakia. The sweetness of the virginia and the musky flavor of the africans are more detectable in the after taste. However, even with as heavy on the latakia as it is, i have not had any problem with tongue bite.
