Outstanding!

I didn't think I would be impressed with this tobacco. Taking the lid off and giving it a little air I sniffed the tobacco. Hmm, that's quite nice. I left the jar lid off for about 8 hours and the moisture level was near perfect. These are soft Virgi... Read More
nia flakes turned on end in the jar. The jar aroma is mellow and the bourbon is so faint that it smells more like apple or mixed fruit pie. I rubbed the flakes all the way out and loaded up. AMAZING! This is SUPERB! The Virginia is hay, and sweet feed, and mellow, while the liquor topping is very faint not really tasting like bourbon but a light fruitiness.I have tobacco hid away all over the house, but I have found myself revisiting this blend over and over until I'm going to need another jar soon. If you are a Virginia flake fan, give this a try! Two thumbs up! Read Less

If your wondering if you should get this DO IT NOW. Its perfect out of jar the moisture content is the best I've had in awhile not overly wet or any crispy dryness around edges. the cut is soft, mild and can be pulled apart easily. The note in my opi... Read More
nion is fruity(fig kind of fruit or some sort of red berry), nutty brown chocolate with a sweetness that I almost want to just grab it and chew it strait out of the jar. It smelt so good and don't be mistaken this is not even a aromatic. The smoke is great very consistent, (if cut or rubbed out right) and burns very even. Burns along time 40 to an hour. The Tastes is high mild, can taste different notes throughout the smoke especial if relight a couple of times although I didn't feel the need to even after tamping the ash down. Great for Spring time. This jar of Back Down South is a 10/10 for me. Read Less
Nice Bourbon Note

A medium-sliced, soft broken flake. Nose is distinctly sweet bourbon backed with mild fruit tones. Smoke is smooth, but not particularly flavorful. Perique is mild to my tastes.

The smell of tobacco is sweet, it reminds me of jam. The feel of the tobacco is soft and slightly sticky, easy to rub. I had to leave it to dry a little and I did not realize that at the beginning of my dealings with it, but the second time after scr... Read More

Tin note is very nice with some type of alcohol or fermented aroma. Moisture level is good. This folds and stuffs very easily or will rub out easily if that is preferred. Charring light was easy and sweet. The burn is slow and steady without hardly a... Read More
ny relighting required. There is no doubt about this being a blend of what is claimed, both the Va. and the Perique are very evident in the smoke from start to finish. The blend has a high level of sweetness and a medium level of complexity. I was would definitely put this on par with many of the popular VaPer blends on the market today and maybe even give it a one up for the added flavor that comes through. Hay and grass, natural sugar sweetness, spice form the Perique, excellent with early morning coffee. Read Less

I like it, the aroma is nice, but doesn't really follow through to tasting what it smells like, but an easy smoke, mild in flavor, bit of a hit on the back end. I expected more sweetness but the result is pleasing. It's a nice change-up from my usual... Read More
favorites and every experience with it has been positive. Burns a bit steamy and hotter than my usual selections but its to be expected from the rather bold choice of packaging. the mason jar is a welcome novelty and will function for storage for another tobacco when its empty. But I don't like gimmicks and this is boarder-line gimmicky, fun yes, but you're way over paying on a product. 2oz for $11 is a bit much, I'm just glad this turned out to be a good smoke, but will I buy it again? Maybe if it's in bulk, and on a whim I'll pick up another jar, but it's not on my shopping list. I was very tempted to pick up the Bacon Old Fashioned flavor, but glad I didn't, too many negative reviews on it. I'll look at the rest of the selection and consider another flavor, but only if it's got glowing reviews. Read Less

Product: BriarWorks Back Down South 2oz
The first jar I had of this was aged around 4 years. It had a wonderful note of sweet lemongrass, that I haven’t found so prominent in any other Va/Per aged or fresh.

ern, if there is flavoring, it muddled. Taste is medium to full and inconsistent, with notes of dry earth, bitter wood, prunes, very spicy, mild tangy fruit, mildly sweet Rasin bread, mildly floral, mild spice, a bitter plum background note, and a spicy retro. Perique is leading with Virginias supporting from afar. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is ok. Read Less

e bowl: It tastes a bit monotonously, enclosed in a cocoa note that is too predominant for me. The Perique is there but I've expected more. There is a hint of vanilla. I've got some coating on my palate. Second third: Beneath this cocoa there is some oak barrel wood taste. To the end of the second third of the bowl there appears some little taste of fig, apricot and prune. It's as you would have some fruity dessert covered with cocoa. Last third of the bowl: I've got more typical Virginia tastes. The cocoa declines a bit. But where is the Perique? Strength: medium. Pipe: Peterson Sherlock Holmes Mycroft Dark Smooth Read Less

lightly spicy Southern classic. Aptly named!
Sometimes for an enhanced smoking experience, I’ll sit in my rocking chair on my front porch, puffing this blend, listening to the Kings of Leon song by the same name. A song of yearning. I’ll remember my years living in New England, California and Spain, and despite all my great adventures there, I knew I was destined to return to my native South.
But wherever I’m puffing this blend, and whatever I happen to be listening to, I deeply enjoy cracking open that little jar and taking in that aroma. I’ll second the reviewer here who said it smells of orange soda, and another, that there’s a very faint scent of bourbon mixed in. To me, though, it smells more like a liquor than orange soda.
These broken flakes are some of the moistest that I order, of all my blends, and might they crumble the easiest of all my flakes. I already start to miss this one greatly when the jar is nearly depleted. I should add that I’ve never cellared Back Down South long enough to sample it after significant aging. I end up cracking it open soon after receiving it and it becomes empty in a matter of days! The acute sweetness of the Virginias are blended with just the right kiss of Perique to spice things up, but not render the blend significantly spicy. The balance of the two keeps me returning, time after time! 4.5 stars. Read Less

of this blend is natural. I have expected a very robust and straight C&D- typical taste. But this Blend is far more elegant and balanced than most blends of this producer. Reminds me a bit a Pease- Blend.
Typical, natural Virginia- Flavour, supported by spicy Perique.
Flakes are slightly loose pressed, and very easy to pack. It burns very easy, and don't need drying time. Although, it's sometimes a bit harsh, i think because it's a young tobacco. I believe it will gain a lot when it ages. Perfect VaPer for Cellaring, and good choice for smokers that find most C&D Blends too overpowered.
