. This is a complex blend in terms of flavor and has an in-your-face kind of strength. But it is altogether a very pleasant experience. The high level of nicotine is what keeps me from making it an all day smoke, though. If you like the buzz you will love this one. Read Less

Red, DFK and Perique. Of course, Kentucky predominates in this mixture and it gives that fortress (4 out of 5). Perique here, as it seemed to me in a small amount, is like the right spice in a salad. Perique is felt but not dominant. The mixture is only good for very, very slow smoking, cold on pipe fading. If you smoke otherwise you will get the bitterness of Kentucky and the bite of Perique. medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is mild to medium to full and consistent, with notes of wood, floral, spiced figs, leather, Rasin bread, mild sweet grass, and a moderately peppery retro. rique and dark-fired Kentucky comprising the light cavalry on the periphery. And while G.L. Pease hasn’t delivered quite the number of great victories, to my liking, as Cornell & Diehl or Peterson has, with this blend they’ve made me smile, bowl after bowl.
At times while puffing this I contemplated the name and the general makeup of the blend and I imagined America’s fighting men puffing their Virginia tobacco as Burnside faced off with Frazer in the Battle of the Cumberland Gap, 1863. Rare insofar as it was a bloodless battle. I know...a bit fanciful, but so goes a typical smoking session in my world.
This will mantain a spot in my cellar as something I reach for when I want a smooth, easy smoke.

One of my favorites right now. Tin note is tobacco heaven. Very earthy, grass, barn, outdoors, leather. I get natural and sacred. A time gone by. Smokes similar, lights and catches easily and goes all the way to ash no problem. Just a joy.

I only give this 4 stars due to the fact that it is quite strong and hit me all at once when I was at the end off the bowl. I found this to be a nice pleasant smoke. It has a lot of flavor and is complex yet refined enough for the inexperienced smoker. Smoke it slow and steady and see how much flavor this affords oneself. Great stuff.
