According to the GH&Co sales representative, Kendal Dark, Kendal Kentucky, and Dark Birdseye are the same blends. Why is smoking pipes selling the same tobacco under different names? To avoid cognitive dissonance perhaps? Either way, if they run out of one, say DBE shag cut, you can get the shag or vintage cut from the other two listings. This tobacco is so good it has changed how I view all other tobaccos. I was originally pointed to it as a rough approximation of French-style tobacco. Now it’s put me onto dark fired Kentucky in a way that’s going to be hard to beat. It’s fresh, smoky, strong and frankly delicious. I like how the shag cut smokes. The only downside is that I’ve been informed I smell like a burning tobacco barn when I come inside from smoking this, effectively ruining any chances of being the least bit discreet about my smoking habits....Read More

Ended up with this accidently, 4oz instead of Kendal Gold. It sat arounds for a year before I had the courage to smoke it. I was under the impression it contained burly or Kentucky which quickly wrecks my mouth. To my surprise, it was pure smooth fire cured VA with a lovely center core bitter sweet elegance. It smokes great outside in the cold unlike many other pure VA blends. The nicotine is medium to strong but I found this to be a repeatable daily winter time smoke....smoked in 5 minute sessions. I smoke this when pruning my apple trees in winter....it smokes well all day. I am looking forward to a warm spring Saturday morning to linger over a big bowl full, a cup of coffee and the WSJ. It might rattle my nerves smoked in one long session but the solution is simple, just put the pipe down and come back to it later....Read More

Honestly,this is one of my favorite blend! It’s dark,deep,smokey,grassy,woody,subdued dried fruity sweetness,earthy,herbal vegetation,burnt dark cocoa hint,slight peppery with a touch of tangy finish.Perfect moisture content,easy to pack,easy to lit and the shag cut burns cool and consistent.Medium to full bodied smooth and thick dry smoke,great flavors and nuances waving throughout the bowl with quite a strong punch in terms of nicotine,great aftertaste!
