This Drives Me Nuts & Bananas!

hocolate, and various fruit. I guess I could taste some of these things, like the vanilla, but more than anything I was tasting caramel, something rather creamy, some nuttiness, and banana. Especially banana! No kidding. Banana! I didn't see any other reviews here or elsewhere mention a banana flavor. Maybe it's just me. Banana... Hmmmm... Anyway, don't get me wrong: I LOVE banana! And I love this blend. Also, there was plenty of real tobacco flavor in the mix, especially nuttiness from the burley. Great stuff, huh? I guess for me at least, RLP-6 drives me bananas AND nuts! The flavor is 1-Q with a kick. I haven't found a Lane tobacco I was not satisfied with started on 1-Q but need more kick and its here not over the top strong but a nice step up. Stocking up soon.

The addition of burley into RLP makes the whole difference, it gives a little more body and strength even though virginias predominate all the way. RLP is more American and classy while 1-Q is modern and cosmopolitan.
Personally i still prefer 1-Q above RLP. RLP delivers the same roasted vanilla marshmallow flavour from 1-Q yet it is dryer in mouth and a little more bitey, the burley is not that noticeable as it is subdued by virginias and aromas so its only quality is adding a more round bouquet and dryness to the smoke, so in the end RLP has more dimension but is never as easy going as 1-Q and in this respect simplicity is best and wins over.

Chartwell suddenly changed. It wasn't nearly as sweet...and the guy behind the counter told me they were trying to get away from "aromatics." Really? The same name for that blend, but it's really not the same blend at all?
Today's RLP-6 (which is Chartwell) is hazel-nutty, and gets a certain sweetness once I get to the middle of the bowl...but couldn't be a regular blend for me. HOWEVER...if I mix equal parts of RLP-6, 1Q, and BCA, I get a beautifully tasty, mild tobacco I can smoke all day. The 1Q contributes its sweetness, the RLP-6 contributes some complexity and nuttiness, and the BCA minimizes any chance of bite. I urge you to try it yourself...and let me know what you think! I have been smoking on and off pipe tobacco since I has 14 years old, I am now 53, I smoked this tobacco recently and it's indeed a fine tobacco, not overpowering at all, it's actually rather mild and tasty. I will order some more to cellar.

This blend is smooth. mellow and may well be my new all day smoke. Can be made to be a little bitter if made to hot. But it's hard to make I that way. I would suggest anyone to give it a try, May just find a new Love.

It's good, I like Lane Limited a lot but this blend just leaves me wanting something more. It's not quite as good as 1Q or McClelland TQ as previously said by others. Definitely not a bad choice though, just my preference.

It packs easily, burns easily and slowly, has one of the most pleasant aromas imaginable, leaves no bitterness on the tongue, and has a light sweet taste. You can smoke this at any time of the day and it will be great. I really didn't think I'd like an aromatic this much since I've never been a fan of flavored cigars, but this RLP-6 is awesome. I'm going to buy a pound or two to see how well it ages. Read Less

The smell of the tobacco out of the bag reminds me of a well flavoured rum - lots of hints of caramel and vanilla (along with some cocoa), and almost a hint of berries permeating the in- between spaces. It IS a little moist out of the bag, but what tobacco ISN'T, right? Let it sit for a few minutes and you're good.
It lights well, and stays lit well too, at least in a Peterson 312. Once lit, the smells that were sensed upon opening the bag, transfer into the taste and smoke. Again, pleasant, especially as an "After dinner" desert smoke (in my eyes). Relaxing, somewhat cool, and overall great!
If you are looking for a flavourful (without being overwhelming) smoke, that can be had at any time of day, I would not hesitate to purchase some to try. I am glad I went ahead with a larger order of it!
PS also, try it mixed with some of the MacBaren's Virginia No.1. (about 2/3rd's RLP-6, 1/3rd Virginia, to give it a bit of a more "traditional" undertone). Or just smoke it as is! Read Less

uch cheaper and a lot of the english blends with latakia gives me a headache. RLP does not. 1-Q chokes me to death when I enhale it and I am stuck with about a pound of it that I bought before trying the RLP. By far the best lane puts out in my book. I have tryed some of the nougat blends by stokebye and newminster which are very close in aroma and taste but the ribbon cut in them gets aggravating when trying to load while driving. I am a cross country trucker and my pipe stays busy with not much else to do. Read Less

n 1-Q but I found this...sweeter, for lack of a better term. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a sort of fruit flavor that was present in it. Again, this wasn't necessarily bad, but it definitely wouldn't be an all-day puff for me. Again, a nice tobacco for occasional bowls when I need a change from my regulars. Read Less

A great all around aromatic. I loved the Captain Black Midnight Gold, but it has been discontinued. This is nearly identical. Sweet, but not too sweet. Nice and rich.

sinuses while smoking CB. I assume it is due to CB being cased more heavily. Possibly this blend just bleeds it off sitting around in bulk- Either way! This is my new favourite bulk aromatic. If I had children, they would one day tell people about the smell of this blend, cause I intend to smoke pounds of it!

This is one of the better Chocolate and Vanilla I have had. Nice dry smoke, doesn't threaten your tongue with the fires of hell like some. Has a good smooth taste. Liked it enough that I blew through it quicker than expected.

bowl. Rather than getting more intense, they sort of well.. start to just taste bad. In fact, I've given this one three shots and haven't yet been able to finish a bowl.. Which is lame because my wife seems to LOVE the aroma. "It's like cookies!" and "That's the cookie one!" she exclaims wildly. I've smoked the RSVP blend by Mcllelland and it is almost certainly a "knockoff" of this blend and yet, though I'm not a huge fan of that either, it's really quite a nice smoke in comparison. Well constructed and balanced. I also feel obliged to note that though I'm used to a fairly sticky post-pipe experience with these kind of blends, having smoked sutliff equivalents for years, there must be a terrific amount of humectant added given the coughsyrupy (it really smells like cherry cough syrup! ) residue.. I had to get creative to get the smell out.. The smell of the tobacco in the pouch and in the pipe made me really want to like this blend, but it's sadly not to be. Read Less

again a while to give the leaf some air and some time, but still the wet sweet mess kept coming back. Not my favourite blend, but it is cheap. I use it now to mix with dryer blends to add some sweetness. This was the first smoke to bite hard on my tongue and it was the first to leave a blackened puddle of filth in the bottom of the pipe.
