This tobacco is absolutely perfect. Orlik is like an old, dear friend or slipping into some comfy clothes. I prefer the smaller tin, which is probably mental - but it just tastes better to me this way. This tobacco has saved angry pipes who didn't like anything, and broken in some new pipes excellently. A standard; a classic. So terrific when your pipe aquires a taste for it after a few bowls. I cannot state enough how beloved Orlik Golden Sliced is. It is as perfect of a flake as one can hope for. I wasn't blown away by this at first. However, the more I smoke the more I reach for it. This is a nice mild blend, burns well to a nice ash and takes to a flame easily. I will be buying more, this is really started to grow on me. As a follow up to this review, I just bought a larger tin, this has really grown on me and moving it to 5 stars. Read Less

I don't write reviews often, but this one seemed to be a given. As is my usual practice, I opened a tin of Peterson EMP, the day after I got it, and the day before I smoked it. The introduction of air to a vacuum sealed tin always tends to excite the poor tobacco that has been deprived, and it gets it pretty excited. Well I must say I was incredibly happy to have EMP back. From the moment I opened the tin I could remember the wonderful scent of Dunhill EMP. From the moment of the 1st burn, everything was right in the world again. This is a very good blend, but not for $25/tin - Capstan Blue has lost it's value for me... there are a number of Virginias I have found that are close enough for nearly half the price. STG is looking for the kind of margins they get with cigars with this product, and apparently are getting them! I've moved on... Read Less

Yikes! This is one of the worst tobaccos I've ever had. It's less "cherry" flavor and more "giant, burning chemical spill" flavor! Seriously, the taste was just so nasty, artificial, and chemical-like, that I had to throw this pouch in the trash after just a few bowls. Avoid at all costs. Read Less

Scottish Mixture is my "core" tobacco choice. It has a complex set of flavors with the medium spectrum of flavors. The tobacco flavor comes through, but it is the light aroma and room note that I enjoy so much. There is not Latakia for you English blend advocates, but it is a very well balanced blend that I come back to as an old and faithful friend to relax with, smoke after smoke. When it dries out a bit, add a couple of drops of Scotch to your tin to freshen it up! And Enjoy! Read Less

The tin doesn't come with the cube of wood from the barrel in this new patch. I can hardly smell the bourbon. Huge disappointment, but it's still good because it's plum pudding. Cornell&Diehl dropped the ball. Sutliff did it better. Read Less

Escudo is well represented in my cellar and for good reason. This blend ages with the best of them. Although, I really enjoy this blend with just a year of age on it. At this time when you crack a tin it has an incredible tin note of muscadines. The smell takes me back to my childhood and stopping at fruit stands on the side of the road with my mom. The blend not only smells great but it also taste pretty darn good too. The blend supports a wonderful mix of fruit, spice and a touch of hay (particularly when it is young). Ugh, I hate saying it... It's easily in my top 5 favorite tobacco of all time. If I only had this to smoke for the rest of my life, I would die a happy man. Smoked this one regularly while stationed in Germany in the US Army and super stoked it finally made it to the States. This is a smooth, heavy latakia blend with smoky, toasty, and incense like flavors throughout. Usually a blend with this many things going on can be a bit of a mess, but Zulu is just a perfect storm of flavor. I'm happy I can smoke this one by the firepit at home rather than outside the seahut while deployed. Read Less

Let me start off by saying when I first started smoking a pipe, I did what most do tried aromatics, I almost quit the same week until I discovered Virginia Virginia perique , English blends. I’ve smoked a pipe off and on for about 15 years only the last four years it’s been more of a lifestyle than a hobby so I started dabbling in aromatics again and I’ve had only a few that I like this is one of my favorites by far. You can still taste all of the Virginia’s when you sip it slowly you get the nutty and toffee caramel maple goodness. I often resort to this when I’m with some of my family and some of my friends that don’t particularly care for some of the blends that I smoke I smoked this at my son’s football games and occasionally when we’re some of his karate matches every time I spoke as I get at least five or six compliments and asking what I’m smoking. I really hate how people get on here and bash some of these blends mean if it’s not for you it’s not for you. Why did you even try it? If you know you’re not gonna like it did you do it just for something to talk about? I mean come on guys people that want real opinions come here to look and see what we think you can give you your review but don’t bash it grow up I’ve gotten blends that I really didn’t care for, but I give my review on it letting people know what I think of it what it taste like to me I don’t sit and cry about it. This is my first blend dubbed "Navy" flake.. and from the history of tobacco, I imagined something rough and strong like the winds and waves braved by the navies when this kind of tobacco was made for the sailors. And the conservative, white & red tin art confirmed my speculation, and as I started opening the golden wrapper of Mac Baren, my surprise started. It is nothing as I imagined. The first thing that hit me was the beautiful, fruity aroma that welcomed me. Tropical, warm and gay. I tried to detect what aroma is that, but failed. Then the flakes themselves are of a lovely light brown colour with strands of gold as if it's a lazy sunset on the beach. In typical Mac Baren fashion, the flakes are hot pressed, which marries the flavours and makes the flakes as fragile as a little baby. They are easy to break and rub out. easy to pack and a bit tricky to light. But once you do, you're off to the races. The first draw confirms the aroma with a taste, a lovely taste that hit me with a childhood memory. And right then I recalled what aroma is that. It is licorice. And despite everyone saying it's fruit and rum. But I could detect neither, It is licorice all along. Lovely, consistent and easy to smoke all day. It burns down cool and well. And leaves a bit of white ash and some moisture in the bowl. I suspect that some drying time will remedy this, but I had no issue with it. Definitely an excellent VaBur with some sweet Cavendish. Worth the hype. I can go on about how cool it smokes. I can go on about how each bowl is another wonderfully rich experience. I can go on even more about how little bite it renders on a rather sensitive palate with or without a charcoal filter. I like this in a cob, I like it in a briar. Why, if I could batter it, I’d try it in my deep fryer. I like green eggs and ham, Sam I am. I will smoke it in the rain, and in the dark, and on a train, and in a car, and in a tree! This has been my go to blend since ever I opened up my first tin. The sweet smell of the “dressing” or topping initially entranced me to light up bowl after bowl. This is one of C&D's core blends for a reason. Throw a rock and chances are you'll hit 1 or 2 pipe smokers who've tried it. And at the end of the day, it seems to elicit a love it or hate it response. I love it for many reasons. Firstly, I'm a burley man through and through, and BF delivers. Secondly, it brings the nic and the strength without blowing out my palate for the day. And last but not least, this is a very simple blend that takes very little thought.
