A Proper English Mixture!
Westminster is an exceptionally refined and beautifully composed tobacco! a genuinely English mixture in the classical sense. Its character is deep without being overbearing, and wonderfully multi-layered: the Virginias provide a quiet natural sweetness, the Orientals bring an elegant, slightly exotic complexity, while the Latakia supplies that unmistakable smoky, contemplative depth. What I particularly appreciate is that it tastes unequivocally of tobacco. There is nothing artificial, confectionary, or intrusive about it. Each element seems to know its place, and as the bowl progresses the flavours unfold gradually rather than announcing themselves all at once. One notices different nuances almost from puff to puff. For me, this is precisely what good pipe tobacco ought to be: something that accompanies thought rather than distracts from it. Westminster positively invites reflection - the sort of blend one wants in the early evening, as the light begins to fade, with a strong cup of coffee and an absorbing book close at hand. Elegant, intelligent, beautifully balanced and deeply satisfying. This is the taste of real tobacco, and I am thoroughly delighted with it.

Cornell & Diehl - Apricots and Cream 8oz
Disappointingly Artificial
I'm afraid this blend was not at all to my taste. The flavouring struck me as exceedingly artificial and far too sweet, to the point where it rather overwhelmed any character the tobacco itself might have possessed. It also burned remarkably quickly and rather hot, even with a measured cadence. More disappointingly still, I could scarcely detect any genuine tobacco flavour beneath the topping. At times, it felt less like smoking a pipe tobacco and more like inhaling a heavily sweetened confection. I had hoped for a pleasant, gently aromatic mixture with a natural apricot-and-cream character, but found it cloying, synthetic and lacking in depth. Sadly, not one I shall be returning to.
